Bluetooth, mute kit

Bluetooth, mute kit

Note! These installation instructions display installation on left-hand drive cars. Where the operations differ, right-hand versions are also displayed with text and images.Steps 1-15 and 19 show installation on left-hand drive cars. For installation on right-hand drive cars carry out the procedures on the opposite side and/or mirror them.

Note! Cars with Performance Sound audio system have an internal amplifier that is located in the media player.Cars with High Performance and Premium Sound audio systems have an external amplifier, which is located on the left-hand side of the cargo compartment.




- Turn the ignition switch to position 0.

Note! Wait at least three minutes before unplugging the connectors or removing other electrical equipment.

Preparations, passenger compartment

Steps 2-19 apply to cars with internal amplifier




- Open the glovebox.
- Pry off the panel in front of the center console. It is secured with two clips on each short side.
- Pull the panel away downwards.




- Apply tape to the center console to protect it during removal and installation of the glove compartment.




- Remove the panel.




- Detach the clip holding the vent from the glove compartment.




- Remove the rubber mat from the glovebox.
- Remove the 5 x screws from the opening.
- Pull the glovebox straight back in the vehicle in order to release the hidden clips, 2 pcs, in the top edge.
- Remove the outer section of the glovebox.




- Unplug the connectors on the top.




- Fold the carpet to the right of the center console.

Connecting to mute relay




- Locate the mute relay and lift it out.




- Lift off the foam tape slightly and remove the connectors.




- Take the two cable harnesses from the kit and connect them to the disconnected connectors.




- Connect the new cable harnesses to the relay.
- Fold the tape back into place.




- Take the foam tape from the kit and cut it off in the middle. Tape one piece around each connector.
- Reinstall the relay.
- Fold back the carpet.




- Route the yellow cable on the impact pipe and continue along to the sill.
- Secure the cable using two tie straps.

Preparations, continued




- Detach the sill molding by first pulling at the front edge and then straight up so the clips release.




- Grasp the upper edge of the right-hand side cushion. Pull the side cushion forward so that the clip on the reverse releases.
- Slide the side cushion up. Remove the side cushion.




- Pull off the rubber strip at the rear edge of the opening for the right-hand rear door.
- Carefully pry off the lower panel on the C post on the right-hand side. Carefully pry at the top edge. Use a plastic weatherstrip tool.
- Pull the panel on the C-post so that the two upper clips release. Then continue down until the last two clips release. Remove the panel on the C-post.




- Pull the top edge of the sill trim panel in the right-hand rear door inwards until the clips on the inside release. Then continue down and pull the panel upwards until the remaining two clips on the underside release.

Applies to right-hand drive cars
- Remove the sill panel on both sides.




- Pull off the rubber moldings at the rear edge of the right-hand front door and at the front edge of the right-hand rear door. This releases the lower panel on the B post.
- Pull the bottom edge of the lower panel on the B-pillar until the two bottom clips release.

Applies to right-hand drive cars
- Only carried out on the left-hand side.

Applies to cars with an internal amplifier and cars with an external amplifier




- Fold the rear seat cushions and backrest forwards.

Applies to cars with external amplifier




- Grasp the upper edge of the side cushion. Pull the side cushion forward so that the clip on the reverse releases.
- Slide the side cushion up. Remove the side cushion.
- Repeat the operation on the other side.

Cargo compartment, preparations

Applies to the V50




- Remove the cargo compartment carpet.




- Use a weatherstrip tool and pry up one corner of the sill trim panel so that the two clips on the short side release.
- Pull up the sill trim panel so the remaining six clips release. Remove the panel.
- Detach the rubber strip where it covers the left and right-hand side panel in the tailgate opening.




- Remove the screw.
- Pull the panel upwards so that the four clips on the inside release. Remove the panel.

Applies to cars with external amplifier
- Repeat the operation on the other side.




- Fold out the anchorage eyelets.
- Insert a scriber with an angled tip into the holes in the top of the covers (1). Turn the scriber so that the tip engages the reverse of the cover. Pull the covers off.
- Remove the screws from the anchorage eyelets.
- Remove the screw (2).
- Pull off the side panel at the top so that the two clips at the rear/bottom of the side window and the clip at the bottom of the D-pillar release.
- Disconnect the connector for the 12V socket, if present.
- Lift out the side panel.

Applies to cars with external amplifier
- Repeat the operation on the other side.

Applies to the S40




- Remove the cargo compartment carpet.




- Remove the upper floor support on the left and right-hand sides if applicable.




- Unscrew the two external clips at the front edge/bottom edge of the sill trim panel on the tailgate.
- Use a weatherstrip tool and pry up one corner of the sill trim panel so that the two clips in that end release.
- Pull up the sill trim panel at the other end so that the remaining two clips release. Remove the sill trim panel.
- Detach the rubber strip where it covers the right-hand side panel in the boot opening.

Applies to cars with external amplifier
- Also remove the rubber strip from where it covers the left-hand side panel.





Illustrations A and B
- Remove the four clips (1), in illustration A, holding the side panel in the bodywork.
- Unhook the front edge of the parcel shelf panel at the mounting (2), in illustration A. Pull the side panel away from the parcel shelf panel and the panel on the C-post.
- Unhook the side panel from the mounting (3), in illustration B, on the underneath of the parcel shelf.
- Disconnect the connector for the 12V socket, if present.
- Unhook the side panel from the anchorage eyelets (4), in illustration A. Remove the side panel.

Applies to cars with external amplifier
- Repeat the operation on the other side.





Applies to all models

Steps 30-31 apply to cars with internal amplifier





Applies to right-hand drive cars
- Fold back the rear seat's backrest temporarily.
- Pull the cable inside the floor carpets and the lower B post panel, over to the right-hand side.




- Route the cable inside the floor carpets and the lower B post panel on towards the rear edge of the right-hand rear wheel arch. Route the cables along the existing cables harnesses in the cargo compartment.

Caution! Ensure that the cable is positioned so that there is no risk of it catching or rubbing.

Connecting to mute relay

Steps 32-36 apply to cars with external amplifier




- Locate the mute relay by the amplifier on the left-hand rear side, and lift it out.




- Lift off the foam tape slightly and remove the connectors.




- Take the two cable harnesses from the kit and connect them to the disconnected connectors.




- Connect the new cable harnesses to the relay.
- Fold the tape back into place.




- Take the foam tape from the kit and cut it off in the middle. Tape one piece around each connector.
- Reinstall the relay.
- Route the yellow cable along the sill, further along to the rear edge of the right-hand rear wheel arch.

Connection to the accessory electronic module (AEM), applies to all




- Remove the screws (1) and remove the accessory electronic module (AEM).




- Unplug the small connector (1) on the accessory electronic module (AEM).
- Disconnect the large connector on the accessory electronic module (AEM) by pressing in the catch (2) and pulling the black handle (3) in the direction of the arrows until a click is heard.
- Disconnect the connector from the accessory electronic module.




- Remove the black catch holding the black switch in place in the connector by pulling in the direction of the arrow.
- Remove the black switch by inserting a pointed object in the hole on the other shorter side. Press the switch out.





Note! The numerical markings on the top and bottom of the black terminal pin are extremely small, so be careful when installing the cable.

- Connect routed yellow (Y) cable to terminal 11 (telemute) in the black connector.
- Reinstall the black switch in the connector. Lock into place using the catch.
- Press the connector into the Accessory Electronic module. Secure using the black locking handle.
- Reinstall the small connector.
- Reinstall the accessory electronic module (AEM).
- Secure the excess cable using a tie strap.

Supplementary work

Steps 41-42 apply to cars with internal amplifier




- Reinstall the connectors to the rear section of the glove box. Note the color marking on the cable for the right-hand connector.





Reinstall:
- the rear section of the glovebox by guiding it in diagonally inside the center console and then straight forward. The rear section must be positioned on the outside of the remaining inner section.
- the clip for the vent on the glovebox.
- the panel on the dashboard end face.
- the panel inside the center console.
- Remove the tape
- the B-pillar panel
- the sill trim panels
- the C-pillar panel
- weatherstrips
- side cushions.

Applies to all models





Reinstall:
- the side panels
- the screws in the anchorage eyelets, tightening torque: 24 Nm (18 lbf.ft.) (applies to the V50)
- the sill trim panel for the tailgate.
- the upper floor support if applicable (applies to the S40)
- weatherstrips
- the luggage compartment mat
- the backrest and seat cushions.
- Download the software for the accessory's function following the service information in VIDA.

Carry out a function test as follows:
- Turn the ignition key to position I.
- Turn on the radio.
- Check that the control panel for Bluetooth lights up.
- Press the round button in the middle of the control panel.
The radio should mute and a voice should start to speak.
- Press the button with the red handset symbol.
The voice should stop and the radio sound should return.
