Clutch four-wheel drive

Removal

Removing the exhaust system and the propeller shaft
Remove the propeller shaft. See: Propeller shaft Propeller Shaft.

Removing the mounting, exhaust system





From the rear muffler, unhook:
- the rear left-hand rubber mounting
- the front rubber mounting.

Removing the Active on Demand Coupling




Separate the connector from the cable harness.
Position a container underneath the AOC (Active on Demand Coupling)/ final drive.

Caution! It is important that the coupling (AOC) is pulled straight out! Move the exhaust system slightly for access.

Remove the screws for the Active on Demand Coupling. Pull the coupling straight out of the final drive housing.

Installation

Preparations for installing the Active on Demand Coupling




Clean the final drive housing. There must not be any lint from any paper or cloths.
Check that the mating surface is undamaged.




Check that the surface of the AOC (Active on Demand Coupling) is undamaged. Place the new gasket on the coupling. Apply a little grease.

Note! For tightening torques, see Specifications. Tightening Torque





Caution! It is important that the coupling (AOC) is pushed in straight! Move the exhaust system slightly for access.

Install the coupling on the final drive housing.
Tighten the 4 M8 screws crosswise to light contact. Then tighten crosswise again.
Connect the connector to the vehicle cable harness.

Filling and checking the oil in the Active on Demand Coupling




Only oil P/N 116 1641 (0.3 liter containers) may be used.
Tighten the level plug according to: Tightening torque Tightening Torque.
Volume approximately 0.8 liters.

Caution! If the AOC (Active on Demand Coupling) has been replaced with a new one, the car must be driven carefully in tight circles in both directions and then driven for a few kilometers, after filling with oil. Re-check and top up the oil level as above.
