Preparatory work
Method contents
This method consists of two different methods:
- front right side, replacing
- replacing
Removing the drive shaft
Remove the drive shaft according to: Drive shaft right Drive Shaft Right.
Drive shaft seal ring, front right side, replacing
Removing the seal ring
Detach the seal ring from the crown wheel shaft.
Use a screwdriver/jimmy bar.
Installing the seal ring
Install the new drive shaft seal ring.
Lubricate the seal with wheel bearing grease.
Use 999 5654 Punch 999 5654 Punch. Tap in the ring until it stops.
Note! If the crown wheel shaft seal is be replaced as well, see replacing.

Marking the position of the set nut
Mark the position of the set nut in relation to the housing with a chalk line.
Measure and note the height between the nut and the housing.
Remove the screw and catch of the nut.
Removing the set nut
Remove the adjusting nut using 999 7178 Wrench 999 7178 Wrench.
Removing the seal ring
Tap out the seal ring.
Use a screwdriver.
Installing the seal ring
Install the set nut seal ring.
Lubricate the seal lip with wheel bearing grease.
Use 999 7191 Drift 999 7191 Drift. Tap in the seal until the face of the drift touches the nut.
Insert a new O-ring on the nut. Lubricate the O-ring and threads with wheel bearing grease.
Installing the set nut
Install the set nut.
Use 999 7178 Wrench 999 7178 Wrench. Turn the propeller shaft while the nut is tightened to the position measured previously.
Checking the marking
Check that the markings align exactly.
Check the height following Marking the position of the set nut.
Install the catch. Tighten the screw following Tightening torque Tightening Torque.
