Steering Shaft: Service and Repair

Steering column steering shaft, replacing

Preparatory work
Remove the soundproofing.

Note: Only applies to vehicles with knee bolsters.

Remove:





- the screws, 4 pcs.
- the knee bolster.
- the steering wheel module (SWM). See: Contact reel/steering wheel module (SWM), replacing.

Removal
Removing the steering column / steering shaft





Remove the screw. Lift up the steering shaft joint so that it releases from the steering gear.





Disconnect the connector and release the cable harness from the steering column.

Remove:





- the 4 screws
- the steering column.

Installation

Note: For tightening torques, See: Specifications.

Installing the Steering column / Steering shaft
Install:
- the steering column
- the 4 x M8 screws
- the connector
- the cable harness
- the screw for the steering shaft joint. Tighten. See: Specifications.
- the steering wheel module (SWM). See: Contact reel/steering wheel module (SWM), replacing.

Finishing

Note: Only applies to vehicles with knee bolsters.

Install:
- the knee bolster
- the 4 x screws for the knee bolster

Install:
- the soundproofing panel.
