Note!
Kit contents:
- Member kit
- Ball holder
- Ball
- Spacer block (purchased separately)
- Mounting screw, spare wheel (purchased separately)
- High support for the floor in the cargo compartment (purchased separately)
- Support for the floor in the cargo compartment (S40 only, purchased separately).
- Remove the four screws (1) for the bumper cover. The screws are at the bottom/sides of the tailgate opening and at the bottom edge of the bumper.
Carry out on both the left and right-hand sides:
- Remove the five screws (1) holding the bumper cover at the rear edge of the wing liner in the rear wheel arch.
Carry out on both the left and right-hand sides:
- Detach the end of the bumper cover. Grasp the bumper cover inside the wing liner and pull carefully until the six catches at the top edge release (illustration A)
- Remove the bumper cover by pulling it straight backwards (illustration B).
- Clean any underseal and dirt from the collision member where the L-profile for the tow hitch is to be located
- Take the L-profile, four M10x30 flanged screws and four flange nuts from the kit. Install the L-profile on the collision member as illustrated. Do not fully tighten yet.
Securing the tow hitch wiring connector to the bracket:
- Take the assembled connector from the kit for the four-pin wiring
- Take the bracket from the tow hitch kit
- Secure the connector on the bracket using the two screws and nuts.
- Take the towing ball holder and mounting, two M14x110 flanged screws and two flange nuts from the kit. Install the holder on the L-profile together with the bracket and the connector from the previous point. Ensure that the bracket is on the left-hand side of the holder and that its front edge (1) is parallel with the front edge of the holder (2).
Note! Do not tighten fully yet.
- Take four M10x25 flanged screws and the long mounting plate with welded nuts from the kit. Install the mounting plate on the front of the panel edge, at the bottom edge of the chassis. Install the screws
- Alternately tighten the four M10 screws for the L-profile (see illustration 4), so that the L-profile is correctly positioned against both sides of the collision member
- Tighten the four screws. Tighten to 47 Nm (35 lbf. ft)
- Tighten the four M10 screws in the panel edge, at the bottom edge of the chassis. Tighten to 47 Nm (35 lbf. ft.)
- Tighten the two M14 screws through the spacer pipes. Tighten to 200 Nm (147 lbf. ft.).
- Continue to install the tow hitch wiring according to the separate Installation Instructions.
- Apply tape to the outside of the bumper cover, opposite the markings on the inside. This is done to protect the paint from the saw when cutting out the cut-out for the tow hitch
- Cut out the cut-out following the existing markings.
Note! Do not damage the painted surface of the bumper cover. Cut so that the raised edge on the inside remains. The raised edge marks the cut-out.
- Smooth off the sawn edges using a fine toothed file. Remove the tape.
- Reinstall the bumper cover on the chassis using the screws in the wheel arches, on the top and at the bottom of the bumper cover. Press the ends into place so that they engage in the mountings in the body.
- Take the ball holder, towing ball, washer, nut, locking bolt and cotter pin from the kit
- Slide the ball holder into the square mounting for the towing ball. Slide until the holes in the ball holder and the square mounting are aligned
- Slide the locking bolt into the hole
- Lock the other side using the cotter pin
- Position the ball in the hole on the ball holder
- Install the washer and nut. Tighten to 244 Nm (180 lbf. ft.).
Storing the tow hitch, applies to cars without a spare wheel

- Place the tow hitch and test the position
- Clean the surfaces where the pieces of foam tape will be applied
- Screw the screw fully into the polystyrene box.

- Apply the pieces of foam tape from the kit. See the illustration.
- Undo the screw holding the polystyrene box in the chassis
- Place the tow hitch in the bag supplied. Position the tow hitch as illustrated in illustration 11A
- Thread the belt into the hole for the screw for the polystyrene box. Wrap the belt twice around the tow hitch, once around the bent bracket for the towing ball and once around the square profile. See the illustration
- Secure the bag holding the tow hitch to the polystyrene box
- Screw the screw fully into the polystyrene box.
Installing the spacer block. Applies to all cars with a spare wheel
Applies to the V50 without subwoofer
- Lift out the support for the floor in the cargo compartment.
- Unscrew the screw with the plastic cone holding the spare wheel
- Lift out the spare wheel.
- Pry off the four external clips at the front edge/bottom edge of the sill trim panel on the tailgate
- Pry up one of the corners of the sill trim panel so that the two clips at that end release. Use a weatherstrip tool
- Pull up the sill trim panel so the remaining six clips release. Remove the panel
- Detach the rubber strip where it covers both the side panels in the boot opening.
- Fold the seat cushion and backrest forward on both the right and left-hand sides of the rear seat.
- Grasp the upper edge of the right-hand side cushion. Pull the side cushion forward so that the clip on the reverse releases
- Slide the side cushion up. Remove the side cushion
- Remove the screw at the rear edge of the panel at the front/top of the right-hand side panel
- Pull the panel upwards so that the four clips on the inside release. Remove the panel
- Repeat the operation for the left-hand side.
- Pull off the rubber strip at the rear of the opening for the right-hand rear door
- Pull off the lower C-post panel at the upper edge so that the three upper screws release. This facilitates removal of the side panel later
- Repeat the operation for the left-hand side.
- Fold out the load securing eyelets on the right-hand side panel
- Insert a scriber with an angled tip into the holes in the top of the covers (1). Turn the scriber so that the tip engages the reverse of the cover. Pull the cover off
- Remove the screws in the load securing eyelets
- Remove the screw (2) at the front/top edge of the side panel
- Pull off the side panel at the top so that the two clips at the rear/bottom of the side window and the clip at the bottom of the D-post release
- Disconnect the connector for the 12V socket, if present
- Lift out the side panel
- Repeat the operation for the left-hand side.
- Remove the right-hand floor support. First remove the three clips at the bottom of the compartment, then lift it up
- Repeat the operation for the left-hand side
- Place the supports for the floor in the cargo compartment to one side. New ones are in the kit.
- Place the spacer block with the large hole (from the kit) in the centre of the bottom of the spare wheel well with the angled lug (1) facing forward in the car
- Using a pencil, mark the insulation panel at the bottom of the spare wheel well along the edge of the hole
- Remove the spacer block.
- Cut just inside the marking so that the underneath of the spacer block lies against the bottom of the spare wheel well. Ensure that none of the insulation panel is in between the spacer block and the wheel well
- Reposition the spacer block.
- Reposition the spare wheel.
- Remove the locking washer. Unscrew the locking screw for the spare wheel mounting from the plastic cone. Place the screw to one side
- Take the new long screw from the kit. Install the screw in the plastic cone. Lock using the locking washer.
- Tighten the spare wheel using the new screw and the plastic cone.
- Install the new supports for the floor in the cargo compartment from the kit in place of the old ones
- Reinstall the side panel in the cargo compartment. Tighten the screws for the load securing eyelets. Tighten to 24 Nm (18 lbf.ft)
- Reinstall the panel at the front edge of the side panels
- Reinstall the tailgate sill trim panel
- Reinstall the C-post panels
- Reinstall the rubber strips at the rear edge of the rear doors
- Reinstall the side cushions
- Position the backrest and seat cushions back into place.
Applies to the V50 with subwoofer
- Lift out the support for the floor in the cargo compartment.
- Unscrew the screw with the plastic cone holding the spare wheel
- Lift out the spare wheel.
- Place the spacer block with the large hole (from the kit) in the centre of the bottom of the spare wheel well with the angled lug (1) facing forward in the car
- Using a pencil, mark the insulation panel at the bottom of the spare wheel well along the edge of the hole
- Remove the spacer block.
- Cut just inside the marking so that the underneath of the spacer block lies against the bottom of the spare wheel well. Ensure that none of the insulation panel is in between the spacer block and the wheel well
- Reposition the spacer block.
- Reposition the spare wheel.
- Remove the locking washer. Unscrew the locking screw for the spare wheel mounting from the plastic cone. Place the screw to one side
- Take the new long screw from the kit. Install the screw in the plastic cone. Lock using the locking washer.
- Tighten the spare wheel using the new screw and the plastic cone.
Applies to the S40 without subwoofer
- Lift out the cargo compartment floor and place to one side. It will not be reused.
- Unscrew the screw with the plastic cone holding the spare wheel
- Lift out the spare wheel.
- Remove the upper supports for the floor in the cargo compartment on the right and left-hand sides. Place to one side. New ones are in the kit.
- Place the spacer block with the large hole (from the kit) in the centre of the bottom of the spare wheel well with the angled lug (1) facing forward in the car
- Using a pencil, mark the insulation panel at the bottom of the spare wheel well along the edge of the hole
- Remove the spacer block.
- Cut just inside the marking so that the underneath of the spacer block lies against the bottom of the spare wheel well. Ensure that none of the insulation panel is in between the spacer block and the wheel well
- Reposition the spacer block.
- Reposition the spare wheel.
- Remove the locking washer. Unscrew the locking screw for the spare wheel mounting from the plastic cone. Place the screw to one side
- Take the new long screw from the kit. Install the screw in the plastic cone. Lock using the locking washer.
- Tighten the spare wheel using the new screw and the plastic cone.
- Install two new supports for the floor in the cargo compartment from the kit.
Applies to the S40 with subwoofer
- Lift out the support for the floor in the cargo compartment.
- Unscrew the screw with the plastic cone holding the spare wheel
- Lift out the spare wheel.
- Place the spacer block with the large hole (from the kit) in the centre of the bottom of the spare wheel well with the angled lug (1) facing forward in the car
- Using a pencil, mark the insulation panel at the bottom of the spare wheel well along the edge of the hole
- Remove the spacer block.
- Cut just inside the marking so that the underneath of the spacer block lies against the bottom of the spare wheel well. Ensure that none of the insulation panel is in between the spacer block and the wheel well
- Reposition the spacer block.
- Reposition the spare wheel.
- Remove the locking washer. Unscrew the locking screw for the spare wheel mounting from the plastic cone. Place the screw to one side
- Take the new long screw from the kit. Install the screw in the plastic cone. Lock using the locking washer.
- Tighten the spare wheel using the new screw and the plastic cone.
Storing the tow hitch, applies to cars with a spare wheel

- Place the tow hitch and test the position
- Clean the surfaces where the pieces of foam tape will be applied.

- Apply the pieces of foam tape from the kit. See the illustration.
- Place the tow hitch in the bag supplied. Position the tow hitch as illustrated in illustration 50A
- Thread the belt into one of the holes in the rim. Secure the bag holding the tow hitch to the tire
- Reinstall the floor in the cargo compartment.
Applies to the S40 without subwoofer
- Take a new cargo compartment floor from the kit. Install the new cargo compartment floor.
