SUBJECT:
Outer Rear Seat Belt, Locked Retractor.
REFERENCE:
VADIS
DESCRIPTION:
A customer may complain about difficulty extending an outer rear seat belt.
This can occur if the seat belt retracts too quickly, causing the automatic locking retractor to engage. The problem can also occur after the back rest was folded down and then slammed back up with high speed.
TOOLS & MATERIAL:
Felt tape, P/N 1161691
SERVICE METHOD:
Do not replace the seat belt. If the retractor is blocked, pull the belt out slowly, but with enough force to unlock and release the retractor. Then proceed with the service method below.
- Use felt tape P/N 1161691 (standard width = 50 mm).
- Cut a 2-inch by 2-inch piece (50 mm by 50 mm).
- Remove two-thirds of the protection paper.
S40: Remove the parcel shelf according to VADIS.
V50: Remove the plastic panel covering the outer seat belt retractor according to VADIS.
- Hold the tape with the felt side facing down.
- Slide the felt between the belt guide and the belt as shown in the picture.
- Remove the remaining piece of protection paper.
- Fold the felt piece over the belt guide.
- Match both ends so that they point toward the rear of the car.
- Stick both ends securely together.
- Felt in correct position, pointing toward the rear.
- The felt will sufficiently slow down the retracting speed of the belt.
- Reinstall the parcel shelf for S40 or plastic cover for V50.
- Check the seat belt function according to VADIS.
