AFFECTED VEHICLES:

DESCRIPTION: The RTI (Road and Traffic Information) may display a message "Please insert disc" even though the unit is HDD (Hard Disc Drive)-based (MMM+). This symptom can also cause the MMM (Multi Media Unit) to remain active with the key in the off position (RTI display will stay in the up position) and drain the battery.

PRODUCT MODIFICATION: New SW (software) was introduced in production 09w04 from following chassis breaks:
533 - 146932
542 - 077565
544 - 463669
545 - 492891
275 - 520777

SERVICE: Upgrade the MMM+ with update CD P/N 31310029 (two discs) as per the instructions provided below and in the disc package.
This kit includes two discs, one for the boot loader SW, and the other for the application SW.
The upgrade discs can be used to update more than one vehicle.

PARTS:

1. Ensure stable voltage
Connect a battery charger to the vehicle.

2. Start the navigation system
1. Turn the ignition key to position <2>.
2. Wait for the (Figure 2.1) to appear.
3. It there is a disc in the navigation unit, eject and remove it. Keep the disc (hereafter denoted ).

3. Update bootloader software
(Total time: 3 minutes.)
1. Insert disc 1 () into the navigation system. The update procedure will start automatically.
2. The (Figure 3.1) will appear.
3. The bootloader update is finished when the screen turns black. (It should take 10 seconds.)
4. Wait for 20 seconds.
5. Remove disc 1 () from the navigation system.
6. Turn the ignition key to position <0> and remove the key.
7. Wait for 120 seconds. The navigation display will go down.
8. Insert the ignition key and turn it to position <2>. A message "Please insert the disc" (Figure 3.2) will appear. (It should take 10 seconds. It the message "Please insert the disc" does not appear, go to step 3.1.)

4. Update application software (total time 5 mm)
1. Insert disc 2 () into the navigation system. The update procedure will start automatically.
2. Two application update screens will appear consecutively. First (Figure 4.1) and then (Figure 4.2).
3. The application update is finished when the (Figure 4.3) reappears.
(It should take 4 minutes.)
4. Wait for 60 seconds.
5. Remove disc 2 () from the navigation system.

5. Check application software versions

4. Go to in menu (Figure 5.2). Press button.
5. Go to option in menu (Figure 5.3). (It is necessary to scroll down to find the option.) Press button to enter (Figure 5.4).
6. In the check the following information:
"SW version" "00001404/002400". (It the information is incorrect, go back to step 4.1.)
7. Turn ignition key to position <0> and remove the key. The navigation display will go down

6. Clean up
1 Disconnect the battery charger from the vehicle.
2 Check system function.
