Check the cable between front heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) terminal #1 and the system relay. Check for an intermittent open-circuit.
Check the cable between control module terminal #A18 and front heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) terminal #2. Check for an intermittent open-circuit.

Checking the wiring and component
Check the resistance of the front heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) element between #1 and #2. Resistance should be approximately 1.0 ohms at 20 °C.
Check the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) connector. Check for contact resistance. Check for oxidation.
Check the cable between control module terminal #A18 and front heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) terminal #2. Check for a short-circuit to ground. Check for an open-circuit.
Check the cable between front heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) terminal #1 and the system relay. Check for an open-circuit.
Remedy as necessary.

- Ignition off
- Reconnect connectors, reinstall components
- Ignition on
- Read off the heater element resistance in the front heated oxygen sensor (HO2S).
The resistance should be 0.5-3 ohms at 20°C.
