Fault tracing TCM-P081711

Check the park neutral position (PNP) switch status




- Ignition on
- Push down the brake pedal.
- Read off the park neutral position (PNP) switch status
Move the gear selector lever between positions P,R, N and D.
In positions P and N the status must be "Start permitted", in other positions the status must be "Start not permitted".
When the function is not correct this indicates that the fault is permanent.
When the function is correct it means that the fault was present previously but is not active now. There is an intermittent fault.

- Ignition off
Check connector A (16-pin) for the transmission control module (TCM). Check for contact resistance and oxidation.
Check the cable between the transmission control module (TCM) terminal #A5 (#A35) and engine control module (ECM) terminal #B15. Check for a short circuit to ground.
Remedy as necessary.

- Reinstall the connectors, components etc.
- Ignition on
- Read off the park neutral position (PNP) switch status
Move the gear selector lever between positions P,R, N and D.
In positions P and N the status must be "Start permitted", in other positions the status must be "Start not permitted".
