Engine Controls - Torque Oscillations and/or DTC 9800

NO: 28-59
DATE: 09-07-2005
M. YEAR: XC90, T6, 2005 MY
CHASSIS: 134000-218247
SUBJECT: Torque Oscillation and/or ECM DTC 9800
REFERENCE: VIDA

DESCRIPTION:
With high engine load and low RPM (1400-1600 rpm) it is possible that the engine torque will be greater than allowed by the torque converter clutch, causing a very brief period of oscillation (1-2 seconds). This can also feel in extreme circumstances like a brief period of engine misfire.

This oscillation may also cause DTC 9800 to be set.

(A typical driving scenario for this concern is: driving up a long steep slope at 60 mph +/-, 1400 RPM +/-, Torque converter locked and cruise control engaged or very steady throttle pedal. The Torque oscillation can be felt very briefly until torque converter unlocks).

SERVICE:

A new engine software was introduced into production from chassis number 218247, which prevents this Oscillation. If this concern is found on a vehicle within the chassis limits in the Header, update the engine management software using the Software part number 30677021 (Upgrade ECM) via the Software Tab in VIDA.
