DIM Illumination Introduced

DESCRIPTION:

In MY 2006 a feature to program the illumination of the DIM (Driver Information Module) was introduced. The feature is active (set to ON) in cars built 2005w46 or later (see below for chassis breaks) and can be useful for reading the mileage without entering the car.

When the feature is active, the DIM will illuminate the odometer, trip meter, clock and outside temperature when:

^ The car is unlocked.

^ The key is removed from the ignition.

The displays will remain lit for 30 seconds or until the car is locked. Locking the car will immediately turn the display off.





The photo shows the illuminated odometer, trip meter, clock and outside temperature.

The DIM illumination feature is active (set to ON) in MY06 cars starting with the following chassis numbers:

^ 542-000454
^ 544-186991
^ 545-190375

In MY06 cars built prior to the chassis breaks above, the DIM illumination feature is not active (set to OFF).

NOTE:
Any DIM software download in a MY06 car will override previous settings and activate the DIM illumination feature. It is important that this illumination is understood and explained to prevent complaints by an uninformed customer who is not aware about this feature.

PRODUCT MODIFICATION:

DIM illumination feature introduced.

SERVICE:

If the car is found to have the DIM illumination active (set to ON) and the customer does not want this feature, program the DIM as follows:

1. Use the VIDA function: Diagnostics/Vehicle Communication/DIM/Advanced tab/DIM/Programming the Driver information module (DIM).

2. Choose alternative 2 (Programming of instrument lighting).

3. Select continue until the screen with Programming the instrument lighting is shown. Click the VCT 2000 symbol and make the necessary changes.

4. Confirm proper operation of the DIM illumination.

NOTE:
A software download is not needed to perform this DIM programming! Do not perform a DIM upgrade to change the DIM illumination setting.
