Faulty Signal/Intermittent Fault
Signal faulty/Intermittent fault
Checking the status
- Start the engine to perform the diagnostic.
Check whether the fault is permanent or intermittent. Read off the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) fault status when the diagnostic status is "Completed".
The fault is permanent if the fault status is "Fault found". The fault is intermittent if the fault status is "No fault detected".
Continue - Checking the components and wiring
-------------------------------------------------
Checking the components and wiring
Check the engine speed (RPM) sensor connector. Check for contact resistance and oxidation.
Check that the engine speed (RPM) sensor is securely installed in the correct position.
Hint: The engine speed (RPM) sensor and its wiring are sensitive to interference from surrounding cables, the starter motor cable for example, or similar high amperage cables.
Check whether any cable with high power consumption is incorrectly installed, i.e. it is too close to the engine speed (RPM) sensor or its wiring.
Hint: This diagnostic trouble code (DTC) can also cause damage to the flywheel reference hole for the engine speed (RPM) sensor.
Remedy as necessary.

- Ignition off
- Reinstall the connectors, components etc.
- The engine must be at idle speed to perform the diagnostic.
Read off the diagnostic status and the fault status for the diagnostic trouble code (DTC).
Check that the diagnostic is "Completed" and that the fault status is "No fault detected". The function is faulty if the fault status is "Fault found".
