Communication faultThe central electronic module (CEM) does not respond to the programming command.
The fault may be caused by:
- The central electronic module (CEM) is not correctly connected. The controller area network (CAN) wiring etc.
- No voltage supply or low voltage supply to the central electronic module (CEM). Fuses, the ignition is off etc.
- The controller area network (CAN) is not intact. A short-circuit to supply voltage, short-circuit to ground or an open-circuit etc.
- Another control module in the controller area network (CAN) is disrupting the controller area network (CAN) Another control module is defective or not responding correctly to the programming command in that instance.

Non matching data
The part number or serial number of the hardware that are supplied with the software for the central electrical module (CEM) does not correspond to the numbers stored in the CEM.
Ensure that:
1. The correct software function has been ordered for the specific vehicle (i.e. that the correct chassis number was entered)
2. The correct software function has been selected for downloading
3. The VIN is correct (i.e. the correct vehicle is connected to the VIDA PC)
4. The central electronic module (CEM) has not been replaced.
If the incorrect software function has been selected (alternative 1), a new software function must be selected before a new attempt can be carried out.
It is possible to attempt alternatives 2 or 3 again without making a new order.
For alternative 4, the software function must be reordered. Specify on the new order that the control module has been replaced.
Select "Continue" to complete the software download and to order the software function again and / or make a new attempt.

Fault
The software does not have the data required for communication with the central electronic module (CEM).
The download must be carried out again to correct the fault.
Wait until the detailed vehicle information has been updated in the central Volvo database.
Once the Volvo database has been updated the software package can be downloaded again.

Checking a control module which is not in programming mode
One of the control modules is not in programming mode.
All control modules in the car must be in programming mode in order for programming to be carried out.
Read off which control module is not in programming mode by clicking on the VCT2000 symbol.
A system type number is displayed, the number indicates which control module is not in programming mode. For information about which control module has the relevant number, see: System type number for the control module System Type Number For The Control Module
Note which control module has not entered programming mode.
Select "Continue" to set the relevant control module to programming mode.

Programming mode
All control modules in the car must be in programming mode in order for programming to be carried out.
To force a control module into programming mode, cut the power supply to the control module by removing the fuse for the relevant control module. Transmit a programming command using VIDA. Reinstall the fuse.
The instructions describe how to set a control module to programming mode.
1. Remove the fuse/ fuses for the relevant control module. For the relevant fuse, see the wiring diagram or the inside of the fusebox cover
2. Ignition on
3. Select the symbol for VCT2000
4. Select start
5. Wait until information about the installation of fuses is displayed
6. Reinstall the fuse/fuses.

Communication failure
Communication between VCT 2000 and the vehicle has failed for one of the following reasons:
- Too low battery voltage.
- One of the control modules is not responding.
- Ignition is off.
Ensure that:
Battery voltage exceeds 12 V.
Ignition is turned on.
If battery voltage is correct, perform fault-tracing to find the faulty control module.
