Checking other diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
- Ignition on.
The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored because the engine control module (ECM) registered discrepancies in components or functions. The engine control module (ECM) was forced to reconfigure the system using substitute values, negatively affecting the driveability of the car. It is probable that diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) for faulty components and/or functions are also stored in the engine control module (ECM). These diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) must be fault-traced and any faults remedied first.
Check whether other diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are stored in the engine control module (ECM).
- Ignition on
- Click on the VCT2000 symbol to read off the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
Are other diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) stored in the engine control module (ECM)?

Check the ranking values for other diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) in the engine control module (ECM).
The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored because the engine control module (ECM) registered discrepancies in components or functions. The engine control module (ECM) was forced to reconfigure the system using substitute values, negatively affecting the driveability of the car. A substitute value for a diagnostic function is activated when the ranking value for the diagnostic function exceeds a certain value, normally 128.
The ranking value is a counter that indicates how close to storing a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) the system considers itself to be for each diagnostic function, in relation to a component or function. The counter counts upwards when the fault is active and downwards when the fault is not active. For certain functions, a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored at the same time as the substitute value is activated, i.e. at ranking value 128. For other functions the counter continues to 255 before a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored.
If the ranking value for relevant diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) is 128 or higher, fault-tracing must be carried out on these diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) as though the diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) were stored in the engine control module (ECM).
Hint: Obtain the fault-tracing manually.
The ranking value consists of two values:
- "Worst" indicates the highest ranking value for the diagnostic function since diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) were erased or the power supply to the engine control module (ECM) was cut
- "Latest" indicates the current ranking value for the diagnostic function.
Hint: The update frequency for "Worst" and "Latest" varies depending on the diagnostic function.
Note! For some diagnostic functions, the update frequency for "Worst" and Latest" can be as slow as once every 10 seconds.
Hint: A high value for "Worst" and a low value for "Latest" indicates an intermittent fault or that the fault is not currently active.
Note the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and high ranking values.

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.
- Ignition on or engine running
- Click on the VCT2000 symbol to activate the tool for reading off the ranking values.
Check the read off ranking values against previous readings. Check that "Latest" is now lower.
A lower ranking value indicates that the fault has been remedied. The same or a higher value indicates that the fault remains.
Do the ranking values indicate that the fault has been remedied?

The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.
Do you want to exit fault-tracing?
