Quick Test of Fuel Tank System (USA/CDN)

Quick test of fuel tank system (USA/CDN)

Checking other diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), engine control module (ECM)

Note! At activation of quick-test tank system, diagnostic trouble code ECM-4000, ECM-400A, ECM-4310, ECM-431A, ECM-4320 or ECM-432A may not be stored, since they block/interrupt the quick-test. Check that none of these diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are stored.

- Ignition on.
Read off diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
If any of the above diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are stored they must be remedied and erased first.

Are any of the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) above stored?

Yes - Remedy diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) as necessary

No - Quick test of the fuel tank system

-------------------------------------------------

Quick test of the fuel tank system

- Engine idling.
Activate the quick test of the fuel tank system.
Read the battery voltage and status for the quick test tank system Check the parameters according to the conditions for starting the quick test of the fuel tank system.

Note! The following conditions must be met in order for the quick test of the fuel tank system to be run correctly.
Conditions for starting the quick test of the fuel tank system
- Diagnostic trouble code ECM-4000, ECM-400A, ECM-4310, ECM-4320 or ECM-432A are not stored.
- Engine idling.
- Fuel tank filler cover locked.
- The battery voltage must be 11-14 V
- The status of the quicktest for the fuel tank system shall be Not running.

Hint: The fuel tank filler cover is locked automatically when the speed of the vehicle reaches 7 km/h.

Note! The battery voltage must be correct throughout the entire test. The test can take up to 10 minutes, depending on the quantity of fuel in the fuel tank.

Active the quick test for the fuel tank system by clicking the start button. To cancel the test, click on the stop button.
Check that the quick test has started by reading off the status of the test phase. The test has started when the status of the test phase is "REFERENCE 1".
Wait until the test is complete. When the test has been completed, the status of the test phase shall be Not in progress and the status of the quick-test of the fuel tank system shall be NOT IN PROGRESS.
If no faults are detected after the quick test of the fuel tank system, the test result for the leak diagnostic unit and the fuel tank system will be NO FAULT FOUND.
If a fault is detected after the quick test of the fuel tank system is complete, the test result for the fuel tank system or leak diagnostic unit will be FAULT FOUND for the corresponding diagnostic trouble code, depending on the fault.

Hint: Even if some test result is Fault detected after completed test, the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) for the fault will not be stored in the Engine control module (ECM). Respective diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) will be stored in the engine control module (ECM) should the same result be obtained after a regular leakage scan, that is to say running on.

Select an alternative to continue when test is completed
1. The test result for the fuel tank system (major leak and minor leak) and all four parameters for the fault status of the leak diagnostic unit (ECM-4310, ECM-431A, ECM-4320 and ECM-432A) is NO FAULT FOUND.
2. The test result for the fuel tank system (major leak and minor leak) or any of the parameters for the fault status of the leak diagnostic unit (ECM-4310, ECM-431A, ECM-4320 and ECM-432A) is FAULT FOUND.
3. The quick test does not start.

Select alternative according to above.

1 - Exit fault-tracing

2 - Fault-tracing information 1

3 - Fault-tracing information 2

-------------------------------------------------

Fault-tracing information 1
Engine control module (ECM) has detected a defect during the quick-test tank system. The diagnostic trouble code for the failure is stored in the engine control module (ECM).

Hint: The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) for the fault will not be stored even if the control module detects a fault after the test has been performed. Respective diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) will be stored in the engine control module (ECM) should the same result be obtained after a regular leakage scan, that is to say running on.

Troubleshoot according to diagnostic trouble codes that show FAULT FOUND by manually selecting troubleshooting for respective diagnostic trouble code.
Remedy as necessary.
Select an alternative to continue
1. Repeat the quick test for the fuel tank system
2. Exit.

-------------------------------------------------

Fault-tracing information 2
The Engine control module (ECM) cannot carry out leak diagnostics by activating the quick test fuel tank system. This can be due to the conditions for the start of quick test tank system are not met or that there is a fault that does not permit the quick test tank system to start.
The quick test for the fuel tank system cannot be run if the battery voltage varies too much.

Hint: Cancel fault-tracing for this fault. Then read off diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) from the vehicle communication socket. Fault-trace any other diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) stored in the Engine control module (ECM).

Remedy as necessary.
Select an alternative to continue
1. Repeat the quick test for the fuel tank system
2. Exit.
