Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Information
Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) information
Condition
Engine control module (ECM) checks function for impulse sensor's signal.
The engine control module (ECM) counts the number of teeth on the flywheel / carrier plate using the engine speed (RPM) sensor signal.
The diagnostic trouble code for intermittent problem is generated if the control module detects:
- Wrong number of teeth during a certain amount of crankshaft revolutions.
The diagnostic trouble code for incorrect signal is generated if the control module detects:
- Wrong number of teeth during a certain amount of crankshaft revolutions, several driving cycles in a row.
The control module's test for the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) starts in the event of:
- Engine running.
- Engine rpm over 1000 rpm.
Note! The control module can only detect the fault once the test has been started and the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored when the conditions are met.
Substitute value
- Signal from camshaft position (CMP) sensor.
Possible source
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the engine speed (RPM) sensor connector.
- Incorrectly installed impulse sensor.
- Damage to carrier plate / flywheel.
- Damaged engine speed (RPM) sensor.
Fault symptom[s]
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) lit.
