Oxygen Sensor: Service and Repair






Heated oxygen sensor (HO2S), replacing

Replacement of heated oxygen sensors, cylinder 2, 4, 6 and 8 (bank 2)

Special tools:
999 5543 SOCKET NV-22 HO2S 999 5543 Socket NV-22 HO2S

Removal

Removing the lower engine cover
Raise the vehicle: Jacking points, body Service and Repair.





Remove:
- the 6 screws
- the lower engine cover.

Removing the rear heated oxygen sensor




Unplug the connector of the rear heated oxygen sensor. Remove the oxygen sensor using 999 5543 SOCKET NV-22 HO2S 999 5543 Socket NV-22 HO2S.

Removing intermediate pipes





Remove:
- the 8 nuts
- the 2 intermediate pipes. Scrap the 4 gaskets.

Unplugging the connector of the front heated oxygen sensor




Remove the front heated oxygen sensor using tool 999 5543 SOCKET NV-22 HO2S 999 5543 Socket NV-22 HO2S.

Installation

Note! To ensure that there is no exhaust leakage, see: Flanged joint, assembling Removal and Replacement.

Installing the front heated oxygen sensor




Install the front heated oxygen sensor using 999 5543 SOCKET NV-22 HO2S 999 5543 Socket NV-22 HO2S. Tighten as specified: Tightening torque, B8444S [1][2]Specifications. Plug in the connector of the front heated oxygen sensor. Position the connector in the retainer.

Installing intermediate pipes





Install:
- new4 gaskets
- the 2 intermediate pipes
- the 8 nuts; tighten.

Installing the rear heated oxygen sensor




Install the rear heated oxygen sensor using 999 5543 SOCKET NV-22 HO2S 999 5543 Socket NV-22 HO2S. Tighten as specified: Tightening torque, B8444S [1][2]Specifications. Plug in the connector of the rear heated oxygen sensor. Position the connector in the retainer.

Installing the lower engine cover





Install:
- the lower engine cover
- the 6 screws; tighten.

Replacement of heated oxygen sensors, cylinder 1, 3, 5 and 7 (bank 1)

Removal

Removing protective plate





Note! There is a guide sleeve on the upper mounting for the plate. This must be lifted slightly so that the panel can be slid forward.

Remove the 6 screws. Lift and slide the protective plate forward. Remove the protective plate.

Removing the lower engine cover





Remove:
- the 6 screws
- the lower engine cover.

Removing the front heated oxygen sensor




Unplug the connector of the front heated oxygen sensor from above. Remove the front heated oxygen sensor using 999 5543 SOCKET NV-22 HO2S 999 5543 Socket NV-22 HO2S

Removing the rear heated oxygen sensor




Unplug the connector of the front heated oxygen sensor from above. Remove the oxygen sensor using 999 5543 SOCKET NV-22 HO2S 999 5543 Socket NV-22 HO2S.

Installation

Install the front heated oxygen sensor using 999 5543 SOCKET NV-22 HO2S 999 5543 Socket NV-22 HO2S. Tighten as specified: Tightening torque, B8444S [1][2]Specifications. Plug in the connector of the front heated oxygen sensor. Position the connector in the retainer.

Installing the rear heated oxygen sensor




Install the rear heated oxygen sensor using tool 999 5543 SOCKET NV-22 HO2S 999 5543 Socket NV-22 HO2S. Tighten as specified: Tightening torque, B8444S [1][2]Specifications. Plug in the connector of the rear heated oxygen sensor. Position the connector in the retainer.

Installing the lower engine cover





Install:
- the lower engine cover
- the 6 screws; tighten.

Installing the protective plate





Install:
- the protective plate
- the 6 screws; tighten.

Erase Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

Reset trim.
