DESCRIPTION:

A loud squealing noise may occur from the engine compartment when the engine is started cold. Analysis has found the root cause to be misalignment of the alternator. Consequently the alternator pulley
will also end up misaligned in relation to the other pulleys for the auxiliary belt.

PRODUCT MODIFICATION:

Secured the correct tightening order of the alternator screws in production during structure week 2012W22.

SERVICE:

If squealing noise is present, do as follow:
- Remove the auxiliary belt (not the A/C belt) according to VIDA
- Loosen, but do not remove, all three alternator screws
- Tighten upper screw (M8, 24Nm) first, see #1 in Photo 1 of the attachment
- Tighten lower 2 screws (M8, 24Nm), see #2 and #3 in Photo 1 of the attachment
- Install a new auxiliary belt, PN 30777431
