Checking Interior Movement Sensor (IMS) And Passenger Compartment Heater In Event Of Recurring False Alarm
Checking interior movement sensor (IMS) and passenger compartment heater in event of recurring false alarm
This fault tracing applies to vehicles with electric passenger compartment heater and movement sensor (IMS) installed before structure week 201120.
This variant of movement sensor (IMS) uses ultrasonic technology that uses the air in the vehicle as a signal carrier. This means that the movement sensor becomes more sensitive to the air turbulence from the passenger compartment heater which can lead to false alarms. To minimise the risk of false alarms due to air turbulence from the passenger compartment heater, it should be positioned horizontally on the floor under the passenger seat so that it blows under the seat. Also check that the passenger compartment heater is located in accordance with the minimum distance specified in the user manual.
The variant of the movement sensor (IMS) that was introduced in structure week 201120 is, however, less sensitive to air turbulence.
In the event of recurring false alarms on a vehicle with movement sensor (IMS) installed between MY 2007 and 2012:
- Replace the movement sensor (IMS) with the new variant, available from structure week 201120.
- Check the position of the passenger compartment heater if required. The passenger compartment heater must be located as illustrated.
