Troubleshooting
Troubleshooting BCM-C004801
Checking the connectors
- Ignition off
- Check the connectors of the brake control module (BCM) and the pedal position sensor for contact resistance and oxidation.
- Reinstall the components, reconnect the connectors etc.
- Connect a breakout box to the brake control module (BCM).
- Ignition on
- Read off the status and speed of the pedal position sensor.
Depress the brake pedal and check that the signals are updated.
The pedal position sensor signal should increase upon increased pressure on the brake pedal.
Depress the brake pedal at different speeds. Check that the speed signal is updated.

Checking wiring and sensors
- Ignition off
Check the cables for open circuit, short circuit to ground and short circuit to supply voltage.
Measure between: the pedal position sensor
- Pedal position sensor terminal #1 and brake control module (BCM) terminal #7 (#A7).
- Pedal position sensor terminal #2 and brake control module (BCM) terminal #5 (#A5).
- Pedal position sensor terminal #3 and brake control module (BCM) terminal #3 (#A3).
Check the pedal position sensor
- with the ignition off
- a breakout box connected to the wiring harness
- the brake control module (BCM) disconnected
by measuring the resistance on the pedal position sensor.
When the brake pedal is not actuated, the resistance between terminals #3 (#A3) and #5 (#A5) on the breakout box should be approx. 0.5 kohms. The resistance should increase when the brake pedal is depressed.
When the brake pedal is not actuated, the resistance between terminals #3 (#A3) and #7 (#A7) on the breakout box should be approx. 2.5 kohms. The resistance should decrease when the brake pedal is depressed.
Remedy as necessary.
