Condition




The central electronic module (CEM) checks the windshield wipers.
The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if the central electronic module (CEM) detects that the windshield wipers are deployed somewhere on the windshield for longer than 5 seconds and the steering wheel module (SWM) indicates that the windshield wipers should not be activated.
The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) can be diagnosed when the ignition is switched on.

Substitute value
- Windshield wipers are run in low speed position for 6 seconds and then are stationary anywhere on the windshield for 6 seconds. After two repetitions the windshield wipers are stationary for one minute before the procedure is repeated.

Possible source
- The signal line between Central electronic module (CEM) and the rain sensor is short-circuited to ground.
- The signal line between the position sensor in the wiper motor and Central electronic module (CEM) is short-circuited to ground.
- Damaged windshield wiper motor

Hint: The signal line between Central electronic module (CEM) and the rain sensor may be trapped under the foot of the interior rearview mirror.

Fault symptom[s]
- The windshield wipers are not working
- No rain sensor function.
