Troubleshooting BCM-U042862
Checking the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
Note! If there are any diagnostic trouble codes stored for the steering angle sensor module (SAS), the wheel sensors or the AYC sensor (including yaw sensor and lateral accelerometer), perform troubleshooting of these first.
Are any diagnostic trouble codes stored for the steering angle sensor module (SAS), the wheel sensors or the AYC sensor?
Yes - DONE
No - Checking the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
-------------------------------------------------
Checking the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
- Ignition off
Check whether the AYC sensor is loose or improperly installed as described in: Active yaw control sensor, replacing Service and Repair
Is the AYC sensor properly secured?
Yes - Checking the connectors
No - Verification
-------------------------------------------------
Checking the connectors
- Ignition on
- Move the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position.
- Read off the steering angle.
With the steering wheel and front wheels in the straight-ahead position, the steering angle value should be approx. 0°.
If the steering angle does not match the position of the steering wheel, reset and steering angle and calibrate DSTC.
If the front end alignment does not match with the steering angle, adjust the front end and calibrate DSTC.
Other information
- For resetting the steering angle sensor: Contact reel / steering wheel angle sensor, replacing Contact Reel/Steering Wheel Angle Sensor, Replacing
- For adjusting the front end: Wheel alignment, checking / adjusting Service and Repair
Was steering wheel and front end alignment OK?
Yes - Intermittent malfunction
No - Calibration
-------------------------------------------------
Calibration
- Ignition on
Calibrate the brake control module (BCM).
Continue - Verification
-------------------------------------------------
Intermittent malfunction
Hint: The diagnostic trouble code status indicates that the brake control module (BCM) has previously registered a malfunction, but the malfunction is no longer active.
Check the connectors of the brake control module (BCM) and the steering angle sensor module (SAS) for contact resistance and oxidation.
Also check that the cables are not positioned too close to a source of interference, such as a cellular phone.
Remedy as necessary.

Verification
Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the malfunction has been remedied.
- Ignition off
- Reconnect the connectors, components, etc.
- Test-drive the vehicle according to Test Drive Form (DSTC (dynamic stability and traction control) /brake control module), description Test Drive Form (DSTC (Dynamic Stability And Traction Control) /Brake Control Module), Description.
Note! Do not turn off the ignition between test-driving and reading out diagnostic trouble codes. This is to obtain the correct status of the diagnostic trouble codes.
Then read out the diagnostic trouble code's status without turning off the ignition after the test-drive.
Is the status of the diagnostic trouble code intermittent?
Yes - VERIFIED
No - VERIFICATION FAILED
