Expansion Valve: Service and Repair







Expansion valve, replacing

As the illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and / or models, some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.

Preparations

Note! Read the safety precautions for handling refrigerant. See Refrigerant, safety regulations Refrigerant, Safety Regulations.

Drain the refrigerant from the system. See Refrigerant, draining Refrigerant, Draining.

Note! Always plug the pipes and connections when working on the climate control system.

Removing expansion valve




Remove the engine stabilizer brace from the engine compartment.
Remove the mounting for the right-hand gutter.
Remove the gutter.




Open the clamp for the refrigerant pipe on the side member.




Remove the heat shield over the expansion valve and remove the seal.
Remove the refrigerant pipe by slackening off the screw for the holder and pulling it back slightly.
Pull the refrigerant pipes off the expansion valve and place them carefully out of the way.




Slacken off the two screws holding the expansion valve.
Remove the expansion valve.

Installing the expansion valve

Note! Always use new O-rings lubricated with compressor oil.

Install:
- the O-rings on the pipe from the evaporator
- the expansion valve. Install and tighten the screws. See Tightening torque [1][2]Body and Frame
- the O-rings on the pipes.
Position the pipes and the holder against the expansion valve. At the same time check that the pipes are correctly positioned on the holder at the member.

Install:
- the screw. Tighten the holder and the pipes on the expansion valve. See Tightening torque [1][2]Body and Frame
- the seal and the heat shield. Screw the heat shield into place using the nuts.
Press the clamp together on the member.

Install:
- the mounting for the right-hand gutter
- the gutter
- the engine stabilizer brace in the engine compartment.
Vacuum pump the air conditioning (A/C) system. See Vacuum pumping Vacuum Pumping.
Fill the air conditioning (A/C) system with refrigerant. See Refrigerant, filling Refrigerant, Filling.
