Side Airbag Replacement




Side Airbag Replacement

NOTE: If replacing the side airbag after deployment, refer to Component Replacement/Inspection After Deployment Service and Repair for a complete list of other parts that must also be replaced.

Removal

1. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure, Procedures then wait at least 3 minutes before starting work.

2. Remove the front seat assembly. Front Seat Removal/Installation

3. Remove the seat-back cover/pad. Front Seat-back Cover Replacement

4. Detach the harness clip (A) from the seat frame. Remove the two mounting nuts (B) and the side airbag (C).






Installation

NOTE:

- If the side airbag lid is secured with tape, remove the tape.

- Do not open the lid on the side airbag cover.

- Use new mounting nuts tightened to the specified torque.

- If you are replacing a deployed airbag, replace the attachment wire A, B, and C.

- Make sure that the seat-back cover/pad is installed properly. Improper installation may prevent proper deployment.

- Be sure to install the harness wires so that it is not pinched or interfering with other parts.

1. Place the side airbag (A) on the seat-back frame. Install the two new side airbag mounting nuts (B), then install the harness clip (C).

2. Install the seat-back cover/pad. Front Seat-back Cover Replacement

3. Install the front seat assembly. Front Seat Removal/Installation

4. Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure. Procedures

5. Move the front seat and the seat-back through their full ranges of movement, making sure the harness wires are not pinched or interfering with other parts.

6. Clear any DTCs with the HDS. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

7. After installing the side airbag, confirm proper system operation: Turn the ignition switch to ON (II); the SRS indicator should come on for about 6 seconds and then go off.
