Automatic Transmission Installation

Special Tools Required

- Engine hanger adapter VSB02C000015*
- Engine support hanger, A and Reds AAR-T1256*
- Front subframe adapter VSB02C000016*
- Subframe alignment pin 070AG-SJAA10S
*Available through the Acura Tool and Equipment Program.

NOTE: Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.

1. If you did not clean the ATF cooler when you removed the transmission, and you are installing an overhauled or remanufactured transmission, clean the ATF cooler. ATF Cooler Cleaning

2. Install a new O-ring (A) on the torque converter (B), then install the torque converter on the mainshaft (C).
NOTE: Make sure the torque converter is fully engaged on the mainshaft, starter shaft and the ATF pump gear. Failure to do so will result in severe transmission or engine damage.

3. Install the 14 x 20 mm dowel pins (D) in the torque converter housing.

4. Place the transmission on a jack, and raise the transmission to the engine level, then fit the transmission to the engine.






5. Install the rear transmission housing mounting bolts.
NOTE: Be careful not to damage the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor and the sensor harness.






6. Install the CKP sensor cover.






7. Install the front and lower transmission housing mounting bolts.

8. Remove the jack.






9. Install the upper transmission housing mounting bolts.

10. Place the jack under the transmission.






11. Install the front engine mount bracket.






12. Install the rear engine mount bracket.






13. Install a new set ring (A) on the intermediate shaft (B).

14. Clean the areas where the intermediate shaft contacts the transmission (differential) with solvent, and dry with compressed air. Apply ATF to the intermediate shaft splines (C), then install the intermediate shaft. Be sure not to allow dust or other foreign particles to enter the transmission.






15. Install a new set ring (A) on the left driveshaft (B).

16. Clean the areas where the left driveshaft contacts the transmission (differential) with solvent, and dry with compressed air. Then install the left driveshaft. Be sure not to allow dust or other foreign particles to enter the transmission. Turn the steering knuckle fully outward, and slide the driveshaft into the differential until you feel the set ring fully engage the side gear.

17. Apply the recommended grease to the right driveshaft inboard-joint splines. Driveshaft Installation

18. Slide the right driveshaft over the intermediate shaft splines until you feel the driveshaft fully engage the intermediate shaft set ring.






19. Install the transmission lower mounts.






20. Set the front subframe adapter (VSB02C000016) to the front subframe by looping the strap (A) over the front of the front subframe, then secure the strap with the stop (B), then tighten the wing nut (C).






21. Raise the front subframe up to the body, then loosely install new front subframe mounting bolts (A), the stiffener mounting bolts (B), and new stiffener mounting bolts (C).
NOTE: Be careful when connecting these items:

- Front engine mount and its bracket

- Transmission lower mount and front subframe

- Damper forks and lower arms





22. Loosely tighten the front subframe mounting bolt (A) in the right rear stiffener until the front subframe insulator contacts the body; insert the subframe alignment pin (070AG-SJAA10S) through the positioning slot (B) on the right rear stiffener, through the positioning hole (C) on the front subframe, and into the positioning hole on the body.

23. Loosely tighten the front subframe mounting bolt in the left rear stiffener in the same manner in step 22.

24. Reinsert the subframe alignment pin through the positioning slot on the right rear stiffener, through the positioning hole on the front subframe, and into the positioning hole on the body, then tighten the front subframe mounting bolt to the specified torque.

25. Tighten the front subframe mounting bolt in the left rear stiffener in the same manner in step 24.

26. Tighten the front subframe mounting bolts in the right front stiffener and the left front stiffener to the specified torque.

27. Check that the positioning holes and slots are aligned using the subframe alignment pin.

28. Tighten the rear and front stiffener mounting bolts to the specified torque.

29. Remove the jack and the front subframe adapter.






30. Replace the front subframe mid-mount bolts.






31. Install the transmission lower mount nuts.






32. Connect the knuckle ball joints (A) and the lowest arms (B), then install the castle nuts (C).
NOTE: Do not install the cotter pin (D) onto the castle nut until the castle nut tightened to the specified torque.

33. Connect the damper forks (E) and the lower arms with new damper fork mounting bolts (F), then loosely tighten the new mounting nuts (G).






34. Loosely install new upper transmission mount bracket bolts (A).

35. '09 model: Install the EPS ground cable (B).






36. Loosely install a new front engine mount bolt (A).






37. Set the washers (A) in the positions shown. Loosely install new steering gearbox bolts, then tighten the bolts in the numbered sequence shown.

38. Check all of the steering gearbox mounting bolts, and retighten if necessary.

Passenger's side





39. Install the rear engine mount upper base bracket (A) with the rear engine mount (B).






40. Install new rear engine mount bolts (A).

41. Loosely install a new rear engine mount bolt (B).






42. Apply molybdenum grease to the hole in the bushing (A) in the shift cable end (B). Attach the shift cable end to the selector control lever (C), then insert the control pin (D) into the control lever hole through the shift cable end, and secure the control pin with the spring clip (E). Do not bend the shift cable excessively.

43. Install the shift cable bracket (F).

44. Install the shift cable cover (G).






45. Attach the torque converter to the drive plate with the eight bolts (A). Rotate the crankshaft pulley as necessary to tighten the bolts to 1/2 of the specified torque, then to the final torque, in a crisscross pattern. After tightening the last bolt, check that the crankshaft rotates freely.

46. Install the torque converter cover (B).






47. '10 model: Connect the EPS ground subharness connector at the front of the front subframe.






48. Install exhaust pipe A with new gaskets (B). Service and Repair

49. Remove the engine support hanger.






50. Remove the engine hanger adapter (VSB02C000015).

51. Install the harness cover bracket (A).






52. Install the ignition coil cover.






53. Tighten the front engine mount bolt (A).

54. Install the front engine mount stop (B) with the vacuum hose clamp bracket (C).

55. Connect the vacuum hose (D) to the vacuum line (E), and install the vacuum hose on its clamp (F) at the mark (G).

56. Tighten the rear engine mount bolt to 78 N-m (8.0 kgf-m, 58 lbf-ft).

57. Tighten the upper transmission mount bolts to 59 N-m (6.0 kgf-m, 43 lbf-ft).






58. Install the ATF cooler line brackets (A).






59. Connect the ATF cooler hoses (A) to the ATF cooler lines (B), and secure the hoses with the clips (C). Service and Repair






60. Connect these connectors:
- Transmission fluid pressure switch B (3rd clutch) connector (A)

- A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve B connector (B)

- A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve C connector (C)

- Shift solenoid wire harness connector (D)

61. Install the harness clamps (E) on the clamp brackets (F).






62. Connect these connectors:
- A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve A connector (A)

- Transmission fluid pressure switch A (2nd clutch) connector (B)

63. Install the harness clamps (C) on the clamp brackets (D).






64. Connect these connectors:
- Output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor connector (A)

- Input shaft (mainshaft) speed sensor connector (B)

- A/F sensor connector (C)

- Transmission range switch subharness connector (D)

65. Install the transmission range switch subharness connector on its bracket (E).

66. Install the A/F sensor connector on its bracket (F).

67. Install the harness cover bracket (G) on the ATF filter bracket (H).

68. Install the battery base. Service and Repair

69. Install the air cleaner housing. Service and Repair

70. Install the intake air duct. Service and Repair

71. Connect PCM connectors A, B, and C, then install the PCM. ECM/PCM Replacement (A/T)

72. Do the battery installation procedure. Removal and Replacement






73. Loosely install the strut brace mounting nuts (A), and install the vacuum hose (B) on its clamps (C).

74. Refill the transmission with ATF. ATF Replacement

75. Set the parking brake. Start the engine, and shift the transmission through all gears three times while pressing the brake pedal.

76. Check the shift lever operation, the A/T gear position indicator operation, and the shift cable adjustment.

77. Place a floor jack under the lower arm, and raise the front suspension to load it with the vehicle's weight. Do not place the jack against the ball joint pin of the knuckle.
Tighten the damper fork mounting nut while holding the mounting bolt to 64 N-m (6.5 kgf-m, 47 lbf-ft).

78. Tighten the ball joint mounting castle nuts to 78-88 N-m (80-9.0 kgf-m, 58-65 lbf-ft), then install new cotter pins onto the castle nuts, and bend the cotter pin ends.. Front Lower Arm Removal/Installation

79. Tighten the strut brace mounting nuts to 22 N-m (2.2 kgf-m, 16 lbf-ft).

80. Install the front wheels.

81. Install the splash shield.

82. Install the front grille cover.

83. Check and adjust the front wheel alignment. Service and Repair

84. Start the engine with the shift lever in P or N, and warm it up to normal operating temperature (the radiator fan comes on).

85. Turn the engine off, and check the ATF level. ATF Level Check

86. Do the road test. A/T Road Test
