A/C Compressor
Compressor, Removing from Bracket, 6 Cylinder, 8 Cylinder MPI and 8 Cylinder Diesel
Compressor driven by a ribbed belt
• The compressor can be removed and installed at the bracket without opening the refrigerant lines.
• Do not discharge the refrigerant circuit, do not remove refrigerant hoses and lines from compressor.
• After detaching, use wire for example to attach compressor to longitudinal member. Never leave hanging from refrigerant pipes.
• Before removing, mark direction of operation of ribbed belt with chalk or felt-tipped pen. Running a used belt in the opposite direction could destroy it.
• Depending on engine and country version, different compressors are installed 6, 8, 10 or 12 cylinder. engine, gasoline or diesel engine.
• On vehicles with 8 cylinder diesel engine, compressor is installed at the top between the two cylinder heads.
• Removing compressor from bracket and re-installing in vehicles with 12 cylinder engine. Refer to=> [ Compressor from Bracket, 12 Cylinder ]
Removing
• Do not unfasten refrigerant pipes and corresponding clamps.
• This illustration shows compressor for 8 cylinder gasoline engine. For the other engine versions, allocation differs only slightly from this, for example, different refrigerant pipes.
• Depending on version of vehicle, it may be necessary to push aside or disconnect individual hose lines that are routed in the vicinity of the compressor.
• This illustration depicts compressor for 8 cylinder diesel engine
• Depending on the version of the bolts - A - and the refrigerant line routing, the refrigerant lines may have to be removed from the compressor on vehicles with 8 cylinder diesel engines (drain refrigerant circuit) so the bolts - A - can be loosened and removed. Refer to => [ Refrigerant Lines, Disconnecting and Connecting from Compressor ] Removal and Replacement.
- Remove top engine cover in vehicles with 8 cylinder diesel engines.
- Remove noise insulation.
- Bring lock carrier into service position.
- Remove oil filter if necessary. Protect sealing surfaces from damage only on certain vehicles with 6-cylinder gas engine.
- Release tension on ribbed belt ribbed belt for A/C compressor on vehicles with 6 cylinder. diesel engine and remove.
- Mark connector to A/C Compressor Regulator Valve (N280) because of danger of interchanging with connector to electric engine mount.
• If connectors to A/C Compressor Regulator Valve (N280) and to electric engine mount are interchanged, no DTC is entered in DTC memory, however the evaporator may ice-up since the compressor is actuated continuously.
- Disconnect electrical connection to A/C Compressor Regulator Valve (N280) at harness connector.
- Remove bolts - A - (25 Nm).
• Install one washer each - B - at bolts - A -.
• Before fastening compressor, check both bushings - C - in bracket or compressor for correct seating.
• After fastening compressor, check installation position of refrigerant lines - D - and - E -, lines must be engaged in brackets provided (if installed, depending on engine).
• After attaching compressor, also check refrigerant pipes and corresponding holders for adequate clearance with respect to other components, ensuring sufficient distance between belt, holder and pulley.
