Starter Motor: Service and Repair






Starter

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Scissor Lift Table (VAS 6131)

Removing





Engine/transmission assembly removed and secured to (VAS 6131).

- Remove bolts - arrows - at front left and right transmission mounts.

- Remove bolt - arrow -.





- Detach coolant pipe (bottom right) from coolant hose - 1 -.

Disregard item - 2 -.

- Turn the spindles for support elements - 2 - (left and right) at subframe all the way down.





- Remove the locating lugs from the spindles.

- Remove the subframe - 3 - to the side.

Two technicians are required to remove subframe.

- Turn the spindles for support elements - 1 - (left and right) at engine support - 4 - all the way down.

- Remove bolts - arrows - at left and right engine mounts.





- Remove engine support.

- Detach coolant hoses - arrows -.





- Remove bolt - 1 -.

- Remove the coolant flange at oil cooler.

- Disconnect electrical harness connector - arrow - at right engine mount.





- Remove bolts - 1 through 6 -.

- Remove engine support with engine mount.

- Remove ground (GND) wire - 4 - from starter.





- Remove the electrical wires - 2 - and - 3 - from the starter.

- Remove bolts - 1 - and - 5 - and remove starter.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

Attach all cable ties at the same locations when installing.

Secure all hose connections using standard hose clamps.

Replace O-ring

- Install engine.

- Connect battery. Required actions, refer to => [ To connect, connect terminal clamp of ground (GND) wire by hand to battery negative terminal and tighten nut. ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.

Tightening Specifications
