Front Wheel Ceramic Brakes Assembly Overview, PR 1LW
• Always install complete repair set
• After replacing brake pads, depress brake pedal firmly several times with vehicle stationary so that the brake pads are properly seated in their normal operating position.
When siphoning brake fluid, always use a bleeder bottle that is used exclusively for brake fluid. Brake fluid is poisonous. NEVER siphon brake fluid with your mouth!
1 Bolts
• It is not necessary to loosen these bolts to remove the brake caliper. The bolts - 10 - must be loosened in order to remove the brake caliper.
• Tightening specification: 190 Nm.
• Replace each time it is removed.

4 Brake Caliper
• When doing work, do not allow to hang from brake hose, rather suspend it from the body using bundling wire.
• Except for => [ Brake Pads ] Front Brakes, PR 1LJ, 1LL, 1LM and 1LK and => [ Front Brake Caliper Assembly Overview, 2FNR 42 AL ] Front Brake Caliper Assembly Overview, 2FNR 42 AL, no other repairs should be performed on brake caliper.
• Must always be replaced together on both sides of vehicle.
• Brake allocation, refer to => [ Brakes ] Brakes.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Brake Caliper ] Front Wheel Ceramic Brakes, PR-1LW.
5 Brake Pads
• Wear limit, refer to => [ Brakes ] Brakes.
• The inner pad is equipped with a cable for the wear indicator.
• The backing plate of the outer brake pad is equipped with an adhesive film. Peel off the protective foil before installing.
• Before installing the brake pads, clean the pad guide surface and coat it with a film of Polycarbamide grease.
• Note different versions.
• Must always be replaced together on both sides of vehicle.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Brake Pads ] Front Brakes, PR 1LJ, 1LL, 1LM and 1LK.
6 Bolt
• Tightening specification: 5 Nm.
7 Brake Disc
• Wear limit, refer to => [ Brakes ] Brakes.
• Must always be replaced together on both sides of vehicle.
• Remove brake caliper before removing.
• Coat contact surfaces between brake disc and wheel hub with polycarbamide grease G 052 142 A2.
• Brake disc allocation, refer to => [ Brakes ] Brakes.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Brake Disc ] Front Wheel Ceramic Brakes, PR-1LW.
• Replacing, refer to => [ Front Wheel Ceramic Brake Disc ] Front Wheel Ceramic Brakes, PR-1LW.
8 Cover Plate
9 Cover Plate Bolts
• Tightening specification: 9 Nm
10 Bolt
• Loosen these bolts to remove the brake caliper.
• Always replace after removal.
• 190 Nm.
11 Brake Carrier
• Bolt to wheel bearing housing.
• Bolted with brake caliper.
12 Brake Piston
The brake pistons have different diameters. When reinstalling, ensure the respective brake piston is inserted in the correct bore in the brake caliper. The ceramic inserts on the brake pistons serve as heat insulators and must not be removed from the pistons. If the ceramic inserts are damaged, the brake pistons must be replaced for safety reasons.
13 Bracket Bolt
• Tightening specification: 25 Nm
14 Brake Line Connection to Brake Line
• Torque specification: 12 Nm
• Brake hose must not be twisted.
15 Brake Line
• Install in the brake caliper housing.
• screwed together with brake hose, held against the hex nut of the brake hose.
• Hose must be installed free of twists.
• Make sure that lugs are properly seated in grooves in bracket.
16 Bracket for Brake Line
• Bolt to brake caliper housing.
• Hook in brake line.
17 Brake Line in Brake Caliper
• Tightening specification: 19 Nm
18 Guide Pins Bolt
• 30 Nm
19 Balance Spring
• Each brake caliper has two.
• Disengaging and engaging, refer to => [ Balance Spring, Disengaging and Engaging ] Front Wheel Ceramic Brakes, PR-1LW.
