Brake Pedal and Brake Booster, Disconnecting and Connecting

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Release tool (T40168 A) for brake lamp switch (F)

Release tool (T40136)

Disconnecting the Brake Pedal from the Brake Booster

If possible, leave the brake pedal stop installed; it could break the mount for the brake lamp switch if the brake pedal is released too quickly.

- Move the seat all the way back as far as it will go.

- Switch the ignition off.

- Remove the footwell vent.

- Disconnect the connector from the brake lamp switch.

- Remove the brake lamp switch. Refer to => [ Brake Lamp Switch ] Service and Repair.

- First move the brake pedal toward the brake booster and the hold it in this position.






- Insert (T40136) as illustrated and pull in direction of driver seat. When doing this, counter-hold on brake pedal. (At this moment the pedal must not be allowed to move backward). The mounting retaining lugs - 3 - will thereby be pressed off the ball head of the push rod - 2 -.

The process of separating the brake pedal from the brake booster is shown with the pedal assembly removed.

- Pull (T40136) and brake pedal together toward the driver seat. (The brake pedal will thereby be pulled off the ball head of the push rod).

If possible, leave the brake pedal stop installed; it could break the mount for the brake lamp switch if the brake pedal is released too quickly.

Connect the Brake Pedal to the Brake Booster

- Hold ball head of push rod in front of mounting and push brake pedal in direction of brake booster, so the ball head locates audibly.






- Install the brake lamp switch. Refer to => [ Brake Lamp Switch ] Service and Repair.

- Install the footwell vent.

- Install the storage compartment under the instrument panel on the driver side.

Make sure the brake lamp switch is working correctly before driving the vehicle.

Make sure the brakes are working correctly before driving the vehicle for the first time.
