Parking Brake Actuator: Service and Repair






Electromechanical Parking Brake Motor

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque wrench (V.A.G 1331)

Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 505 x)

Removing

Ignition on.

Release parking brake.

Coding check and reported if necessary.

DTC memory checked, malfunctions corrected and DTC memory erased.

Ignition off.

- Raise vehicle.

- Remove wheels.

Ignition must be switched off for at least 30 seconds when disconnecting connector!

Clean entire area around connector and actuator/brake caliper.





- Disconnect the connector from the motor.

- Remove the connector from the retainer.





- Remove both bolts form the motor.





- Remove the motor.





- Remove sealing ring with a suitable tool.





Be careful not to damage the groove on the seal and the contact surface on the motor.

Do not use any tools with sharp edges.

- Clean ring groove and contact surfaces if dirty. Only use brake cleaner

Installing

- Install new seal.





- Turn the adjusting screw in the brake caliper back a little to make it easier to install the motor.

This makes it easier to install the actuator.

- - 1 - mount the motor as illustrated.





Make sure that the seal is seated correctly

- Turn the motor - 2 - so that the hole for the bolt - a - and the thread in the brake caliper housing - b - are covered.





Make sure the motor is seated flush against the brake housing.

Install the bolts a few turns by hand. If threads are damaged, entire brake caliper must be replaced!

- Tighten the motor bolts to 12 Nm.





- Install the connector for the motor into the retainer.





Only insert connector by hand to avoid damaging it.

- Connect the connector to the motor.

- Install wheels.

Wheel bolt tightening specifications, refer to => Wheel and Tire Guide Specifications.

- Turn off the ignition and connect the (VAS 505 x) to the 16-pin diagnostic connection.





Switch on ignition.

Parking brake released.

Coding check and reported if necessary.

DTC memory interrogated, errors shown corrected and DTC memory erased.

- Start the program in Guided Functions.

Make sure the brakes are working correctly before driving the vehicle for the first time.
