Air Ducts In Air Intake Housing and In Front A/C Unit

Air Ducts In Air Intake Housing and In Front A/C Unit

In order to show the air ducts in the air intake housing and in the A/C unit, both of these components are shown cut along lines A - A and B - B and C- C.

On vehicles with glove compartment cooling, the cooled air comes directly past the evaporator into the glove compartment - item 8 => [ (Item 8) Evaporator ].

For the temperature of the air from the front vents to be regulated separately, separator walls are installed in the front A/C unit (not shown in detail here).

1 Front A/C unit

Different versions, depending on the version of the vehicle. Refer to => [ Front A/C Unit ] Front A/C Unit and Electronic Parts Catalog.

2 Air Intake Housing

3 Removing Air From The Passenger Compartment (In Recirculating Air Mode)

The air is drawn out of the front passenger footwell when the air recirculation flap under the glove compartment is open.

In this illustration, the air recirculation door is shown in the closed position.

4 Fresh Air Intake

The air is extracted out of the plenum chamber, refer to => [ Fresh Air Intake ] Service and Repair.

5 Fresh Air Blower (V2) with Fresh Air Blower Control Module (J126)

6 Dust and Pollen Filter

Different versions of the dust and pollen filter are available. Refer to => [ Dust and Pollen Filter with Activated Charcoal Insert ] Description and Operation and Electronic Parts Catalog.

7 Air Intake Housing Lower Section (With Installation Components)

This illustration shows the air intake housing sectioned by the A - A line.

8 Evaporator

9 Lower Part Of The A/C Unit (With Installation Components)

This illustration shows the air intake housing sectioned by the A - A line.

10 Heater core For Heater Unit

Removal and installation, refer to => [ Heater Core With Front A/C Unit Installed ] Heater Core With Front A/C Unit Installed.

11 Auxiliary Heater Heating Element (Z35) (with the Auxiliary Air Heater Control Module (J604) )

The auxiliary heater heating element (with the auxiliary air heater control module) is currently installed only for vehicles with diesel engines.

Different versions of the A/C unit (with and without an installation shaft for the Auxiliary heater heating element. Refer to => [ Front A/C Unit ] Front A/C Unit and Electronic Parts Catalog.

12 Separator Wall

Separates the air duct to the left and right vents and is responsible for the differing temperatures of the air coming out of the vents. Depending on the position of the particular air door.

13 Temperature Door For Warm Air To The Left Front Footwell Vent

In this illustration, the temperature door is shown in the center position.

The right and left front temperature doors are each actuated by a control motor.

The temperature doors for cold and warm air on one side are actuated via a lever and a cam plate by a control motor.

14 Temperature Door For Cold Air To The Left Front Footwell Vent

In this illustration, the temperature door is shown in the center position.

The right and left front temperature doors are each actuated by a control motor.

The temperature doors for cold and warm air on one side are actuated via a lever and a cam plate by a control motor.

15 Temperature Door For Cold Air To The Vents On The Right Side Of The Instrument Panel

In this illustration, the temperature door is shown in the center position.

The right and left front temperature doors are each actuated by a control motor.

The temperature doors for cold and warm air on one side are actuated via a lever and a cam plate by a control motor.

16 Temperature Door For Warm Air To The Vents On The Right Side Of The Instrument Panel

In this illustration, the temperature door is shown in the heat position.

The right and left front temperature doors are each actuated by a control motor.

The temperature doors for cold and warm air on one side are actuated via a lever and a cam plate by a control motor.

17 Temperature Door For The Air To The Rear A/C Unit/Rear Air Distributor Housing

In this illustration, the temperature door is shown in the center position.

Only one air door is installed for the 4 vents to the A/C unit/rear air distributor housing.

In vehicles with a rear air distributor housing, the temperature of the air coming out of the rear vents is regulated via this door by the Climatronic control module (J255). Check using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.

In vehicles with a rear A/C unit, the temperature of the air drawn in by the rear A/C unit from the front A/C unit is controlled via this door by the Climatronic control module. The temperature of the air coming out of the rear vents is regulated by the rear A/C display control head (E265) via components installed in the rear A/C unit. Check using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.

18 Air Door For The Air To The Rear A/C Unit/Rear Air Distributor Housing

In this illustration, the air door is shown in the center position.

Only one air door is installed for the 4 vents to the A/C unit/rear air distributor housing.

In vehicles with a rear air distributor housing, the amount of air coming out of the rear vents is regulated via this door and the speed of the rear fresh air blower (V80) is regulated by the Climatronic control module (J255). Check using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.

In vehicles with a rear A/C unit, the amount of air drawn in by the rear A/C unit from the front A/C unit is regulated via this door, and the speed of the rear fresh air blower is regulated by the Climatronic control module and the rear A/C display control head (E265). Check using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.

In addition, 2 recirculation doors are installed in the rear A/C unit. Depending on the setting of the rear A/C display control head, the recirculation doors are activated so that the air for the rear vents is drawn in either from the front A/C unit or under the center console.
