Components On Left Side

This figure shows the left side of the passenger compartment in a vehicle with steering on the left.

Observe the notes regarding the A/C system => [ A/C System Control and Regulation Components Inside Passenger Compartment ] A/C System Control and Regulation Components Inside Passenger Compartment.

1 Multimedia Control Head (E380)

Using the "car"/"car systems" button, additional A/C system functions can be called up and their settings changed. Refer to Infotainment/MMI operating instructions.

Check using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.

In order to be able to select the different A/C system functions on the Multimedia Control Head and display them on the front information display control head (J685) , the correct version of the Climatronic control module (J255) , must be installed and coded correctly and adapted. Refer to Electronic Parts Catalog and the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.

2 Climatronic Control Module (J255)

Different versions (for vehicles without or with seat heating/seat ventilation, depending on the time of manufacturer and vehicle equipment), allocation refer to Electronic Parts Catalog.

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Climatronic Control Module (J255) ] Description and Operation.

The infrared sensor for temperature and sunlight is integrated in the Climatronic control module (cannot be replaced separately).

The Guided Fault Finding of the Climatronic control module must be performed as described in the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.

Also pay attention to the information regarding the Climatronic control module => [ Climatronic Control Module (J255) ] Description and Operation.

The buttons and rotatory switches have LEDs, they cannot be replaced individually.

The function and indicator lights in the buttons and in the rotary switches cannot be replaced separately.

Pay attention to the correct allocation, coding, and adaptation of the Climatronic control module to the front information display control head control module (J523) / Information electronics control module 1 (J794). Refer to Electronic Parts Catalog and the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function. If the allocation, coding or adaptation are incorrect, the A/C function cannot be displayed or selected in the MMI.

Certain A/C system functions can be switched on and off via the MMI (Multi Media Interface) under the "A/C system" function in the "car"/"car systems" menu. The A/C system control can also be influenced via presettings in the MMI (Multi Media Interface) under the "A/C system" function in the "car"/"car systems" menu. Therefore, first check the presetting in the MMI in the case of a problem with these components, refer to Infotainment/MMI operating instructions.

3 Infrared Sensor For Temperature And Sunlight

The sensor determines the temperature and sunlight on the Climatronic control module (J255). It is permanently installed and cannot be replaced separately.

If the infrared sensor is covered or dirty, it cannot deliver correct measured values and the A/C system control is faulty.

Check the measured value using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.

4 Potentiometer In Right Center Vent (G627)

Remove and install the center vent..

Remove and install the potentiometer in right center vent with the trim..

After replacement of the potentiometer (for adapting the end stops), adapt the Climatronic control module (J255) using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.

Check the potentiometer in right center vent using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.

5 Front Information Display Control Head (J685)

Multi Media Interface (MMI) Display

Different versions and controls, depending on MMI version and vehicle equipment, refer to Infotainment/MMI operating instructions.

Functions (and various additional A/C system functions) selected via the Climatronic control module (J255) , are shown on the MMI display, refer to Infotainment/MMI operating instructions.

Using the "car"/"car systems" button of the multimedia system control head (E380) (depending on the vehicle equipment level), additional functions of the A/C system can be called up and their settings can be changed, refer to Infotainment/MMI operating instructions.

Ensure correct allocation, coding and adaptation for the Climatronic control module, for the front information display control head control module (J523) / information electronics control module 1 (J794) (different versions depending on the production period and vehicle equipment) Electronic Parts Catalog. If the allocation, coding and adaptation are incorrect, the A/C function cannot be displayed or selected in the MMI.

This vehicle has a start-stop system for specific engines as optional equipment. In vehicles with a start-stop system, the stop function is prevented depending on the setting on the Climatronic control module. If, for example, defrost is selected, the stop function is not possible or will be interrupted and the engine will start. The same applies in the case of heating and cooling. The difference between the target and actual temperature is greater than a specified value. Check using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.

6 Potentiometer In Left Center Vent (G626)

Remove and install the center vent..

Remove and install the potentiometer in the left center vent with the trim..

After replacement of the potentiometer (for adapting the end stops), adapt the Climatronic control module (J255) using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.

Check the potentiometer in the left center vent using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.

7 Instrument Cluster Control Module (J285)

With outside air temperature display in the driver information system.

If there is a complaint due to an excessive display value, check outside air temperature display (G106) (due to an excessive measured value of the Outside Air Temperature Sensor (G17) ). Refer to => [ Outside Air Temperature Sensor ] Outside Air Temperature Sensor (G17).

Check using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.

8 Left Side Vent With Position Sensor In Left Side Vent (G628)

Remove and install the side vent..

Remove and install the position sensor in left side vent with the trim..

Check the position sensor in left side vent using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.

After replacement of the potentiometer (for adapting the end stops), adapt the Climatronic control module (J255) using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
