Fluid Pan: Service and Repair
Automatic Transmission Fluid Oil Pan
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Assembly Pin (T40199)
Removing
• Clean working conditions for the automatic transmission, refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Clean Working Conditions.
• General repair instructions, refer to => [ Repair Information ] Repair Information.
- Remove the tunnel crossmember. Refer to => [ Tunnel Crossmember ] Tunnel Crossmember.
- Remove the nut - 1 - from the power steering hydraulic line.
The suspension components could be damaged.
• Do not rest the vehicle on its wheels if the subframe mount, the steering gear or the subframe crossbrace are not installed correctly.
• Do not support the vehicle on the subframe or the subframe crossbrace (for example with a trolley jack or similar equipment).
- Remove the bolts - arrows - and remove the subframe crossbrace.
- Drain the ATF - arrow -. Refer to => [ ATF, Draining or Filling after Repair ] ATF, Draining or Filling After Repair.
- Remove the bolts from the ATF pan opposite the tightening sequence: - 13 to 1 -.
- Remove the ATF oil pan.
Installing
Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:
• For the correct tightening specifications, refer to => [ ATF Pan, ATF Strainer and Mechatronic Overview ] Description and Operation.
• Replace the seal.
• Replace the ATF pan bolts.
• With high mileage vehicles, replace the ATF strainer when the ATF pan is removed. Refer to => [ ATF Strainer ] Service and Repair. Otherwise the ATF strainer must be replaced only if it is damaged.
- Clean all magnets in the ATF oil pan. Make sure the magnets are in full contact with the ATF oil pan.
- Clean the sealing surface from all sealant residue.
- Install the (T40199) in locations - 10, 11, 12, and 13 - with the ATF pan removed.
• The (T40199) center the gasket and the ATF oil pan. This makes sure the ATF oil pan is sealed correctly.
- Install the new gasket and ATF oil pan over the (T40199).
- Tighten the new ATF oil pan bolts in the following sequence: - 1 to 9 -.
- Remove the (T40199).
- Install the remaining bolts in sequence - 10, 11, 12, and 13 -.
- Install the subframe crossbrace.
- Install tunnel crossmember. Refer to => [ Tunnel Crossmember ] Tunnel Crossmember.
- Fill the ATF. Refer to => [ ATF, Draining or Filling after Repair ] ATF, Draining or Filling After Repair.
