Brake Pressure Modulator Valve Replacement
Removal Procedure
Warning: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Warning (Brake Fluid Irritant Warning).
Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Caution (Vehicle Damage Warnings).
Caution: To prevent equipment damage, never connect or disconnect the wiring harness connection from the EBCM with the ignition switch in the ON position.
1. Place the ignition switch in the OFF position.
2. Remove the RH front compartment sight shield. Refer to Front Compartment Sight Shields Replacement (Front Compartment Sight Shields Replacement).
3. Thoroughly clean the area around the EBCM of all dirt and debris.
4. Disconnect the secondary brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) inlet brake pipe fitting (1).
Cap the brake pipe fitting and plug the BPMV inlet port to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.
5. Disconnect the primary BPMV inlet brake pipe fitting (1).
Cap the brake pipe fitting and plug the BPMV inlet port to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.
6. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
7. Remove the front air deflector shield. Refer to Front Air Deflector Replacement (Front Air Deflector Replacement).
8. Remove the washer solvent container fasteners and position the washer solvent container aside. Refer to Windshield Washer Solvent Container Replacement (With CE4) (Service and Repair)Windshield Washer Solvent Container Replacement (Without CE4) (Service and Repair).
9. Disconnect the EBCM electrical connector
10. Disconnect the left front brake pipe fitting (1).
Cap the brake pipe fitting and plug the BPMV outlet port to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.
11. Disconnect the right rear brake pipe fitting (1).
Cap the brake pipe fitting and plug the BPMV outlet port to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.
12. Disconnect the left rear brake pipe fitting (1).
Cap the brake pipe fitting and plug the BPMV outlet port to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.
13. Disconnect the right front brake pipe fitting (1).
Cap the brake pipe fitting and plug the BPMV outlet port to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.
14. Remove the BPMV bolt (1).
15. Remove the BPMV (1).
Installation Procedure
1. Install the BPMV (1).
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).
2. Install the BPMV bolt (1) and tighten to 11 Nm (97 lb in).
3. Connect the right front brake pipe fitting (1) and tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb ft).
4. Connect the left rear brake pipe fitting (1) and tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb ft).
5. Connect the right rear brake pipe fitting (1) and tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb ft).
6. Connect the left front brake pipe fitting (1) and tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb ft).
7. Connect the EBCM electrical connector
8. Position the washer solver container and install the fasteners. Refer to Windshield Washer Solvent Container Replacement (With CE4) (Service and Repair)Windshield Washer Solvent Container Replacement (Without CE4) (Service and Repair).
9. Install the front air deflector shield. Refer to Front Air Deflector Replacement (Front Air Deflector Replacement).
10. Lower the vehicle.
11. Connect the primary BPMV inlet brake pipe fitting (1) and tighten to 32 Nm (24 lb ft).
12. Connect the secondary BPMV inlet brake pipe fitting (1) and tighten to 32 Nm (24 lb ft).
13. Install the RH front compartment sight shield. Refer to Front Compartment Sight Shields Replacement (Front Compartment Sight Shields Replacement).
14. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Manual) (Service and Repair)Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Pressure) (Service and Repair).
15. Perform the Antilock Brake System Automated Bleed Procedure (Service and Repair).
16. Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview).
