Parking Brake Lever: Service and Repair




Parking Brake Lever Pedal Assembly Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Ensure that the park brake is in the full returned position.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
3. Remove the rear tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).




4. Disconnect the rear park brake cables from the left and right park brake actuators.
5. Remove the LH lower closeout panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side (Service and Repair).
6. Remove the instrument panel cluster (IPC). Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement (Instrument Cluster Replacement).




7. Remove the park brake assembly attaching nuts (1) and bolt (2).




8. Disconnect the park brake switch electrical connector.
9. Disconnect the park brake release solenoid electrical connector.




10. Rotate the park brake actuator cable tensioning spring (1) and secure.




11. Disconnect the front park brake cable from the pedal assembly.
12. Remove the park brake pedal assembly.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the front park brake cable into the park brake pedal assembly.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

2. Install the park brake pedal assembly retaining nuts and bolt and tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb in).
3. Connect the park brake release solenoid electrical connector.




4. Connect the park brake switch electrical connector.
5. Raise the vehicle.




6. Connect the rear cables to the left and right park brake actuators.
7. Install the rear tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Release tension from the cable tensioning spring.
10. Install the IPC. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement (Instrument Cluster Replacement).
11. Install the LH lower closeout panel.
12. Apply the park brake pedal and release 2-3 times, to assure proper function of the park brake system.
