Parking Brake Lever Pedal Assembly Replacement (LHD)
Removal Procedure
The park brake pedal and the front park brake cable must be replaced as an assembly.
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
2. Pull down on the intermediate park brake cable near the park brake connector (2).
3. Remove the front park brake cable (3) from the park brake cable connector (1).
4. Remove the park brake cable guide nut (1).
5. Remove the park brake cable guide bolt (2).
6. Disconnect the park brake cable retainer from the floor pan by compressing the retaining tabs.
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Remove the left knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement (Service and Repair).
9. Remove the left instrument panel end cap. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement - Left Side (Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement - Left Side).
10. Remove the left front carpet retainer. Refer to Front Side Door Opening Floor Carpet Retainer Replacement (Front Side Door Opening Floor Carpet Retainer Replacement).
11. Pull the carpet back to expose the park brake cable.
12. Disconnect the electrical connector from the park brake indicator switch.
13. Remove the park brake indicator switch wiring harness retainer from the park brake pedal assembly and position the harness aside.
14. Release the front park brake cable pass through grommet from the floor pan.
15. Disconnect the park brake release cable (1) from the park brake pedal assembly release lever (2).
16. Remove the park brake pedal assembly (1) nuts (3).
17. Remove the park brake pedal assembly bolt (2).
18. Remove the park brake pedal and cable assembly (1) from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the park brake release cable (1) to the park brake pedal assembly release lever (2).
2. Install the park brake pedal and cable assembly (1) to the instrument panel carrier.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).
3. Install the park brake pedal assembly attaching nuts (3) and tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).
4. Install the park brake pedal assembly cross bar mounting bolt (2) and tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb in).
5. Install the front park brake cable pass through grommet to the floor pan.
6. Connect the electrical connector to the park brake indicator switch.
7. Install the park brake indicator switch wiring harness retainer to the park brake pedal assembly.
8. Install the front floor carpet.
9. Install the left front carpet retainer. Refer to Front Side Door Opening Floor Carpet Retainer Replacement (Front Side Door Opening Floor Carpet Retainer Replacement).
10. Raise the vehicle.
11. Install the park brake cable retainer to the floor pan by pulling the park brake cable retainer into place.
12. Connect the front park brake cable (3) to the park brake cable connector (1).
13. Lower the vehicle.
14. Install the left instrument panel end cap. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side (Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side).
15. If a new park brake pedal assembly is being installed, the cable tension set pin has to be removed to set the cable tension.
16. To set the park brake cable tension, rotate the pin (1) forward then rotate the pin to the left.
17. Remove the pin.
18. Apply the park brake pedal (2) 3 full cycles to complete the tension set.
19. Install the left knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement (Service and Repair).
