Fuel Injector Cleaning

J-35800-A - Fuel Injector Cleaner

Caution:

* GM Upper Engine and Fuel Injector Cleaner is the only injector cleaning agent recommended. DO NOT USE OTHER CLEANING AGENTS AS THEY MAY CONTAIN METHANOL, WHICH CAN DAMAGE FUEL SYSTEM COMPONENTS.

* Under NO circumstances should the GM Upper Engine and Fuel Injector Cleaner be added to the vehicle fuel tank, as it may damage the fuel pump and other system components.

* Do not exceed the recommended cleaning solution concentration. Higher concentrations may damage fuel system components. Testing has demonstrated that exceeding the recommended cleaning solution concentration does not improve the effectiveness of this procedure.

Note: Vehicles with less than 160 km (100 mi) on the odometer should not have the injectors cleaned. These vehicles should have the injectors replaced.





Note: Make sure that you read with the operating instructions of the fuel injector cleaner assembly J-35800-A - fuel injector cleaner.

1. Close the valve (3).

2. Add 60 ml (2 oz) of GM Upper Engine and Fuel Injector Cleaner into the fuel injector cleaner assembly J-35800-A - fuel injector cleaner tank.

3. Add 420 ml (14 oz) of fuel to the fuel injector cleaner assembly J-35800-A - fuel injector cleaner tank.

4. Fill the fuel injector cleaner assembly J-35800-A - fuel injector cleaner tank with fuel.

5. Relief the fuel pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief Service and Repair.

6. Disable the fuel pump by removing the fuel pump relay.

7. Disconnect the fuel feed pipe from the fuel feed lines. Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service Service and Repair.

8. Connect the fuel injector cleaner assembly J-35800-A - fuel injector cleaner to the fuel feed pipe.

9. Open the valve (3).

10. Pressurize the fuel injector cleaner assembly J-35800-A - fuel injector cleaner to 510 kPa (75 psi).

11. Start and idle the engine until it stalls.

12. Turn the ignition OFF.

Note: The fuel injectors are clean if the injector restriction is zero.

13. Test-flow the injectors. If further cleaning is required, repeat the above procedure.

14. Close the valve (3).

15. Disconnect the fuel injector cleaner assembly J-35800-A - fuel injector cleaner from the fuel feed pipe.

16. Connect the fuel feed pipe to the fuel feed lines. Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service Service and Repair.

17. Install the fuel pump relay.

18. Start and idle the vehicle for two minutes to allow the residual injector cleaner to flush from the fuel rail and fuel injectors.

19. Add GM Fuel System Treatment Plus into the fuel tank and fill the fuel tank with fuel. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers [1][2]Computers and Control Systems.
