Filler Tube and Seal Replacement

Removal Procedure




1. The Allison 2000/2400 transmission case has provisions that enable the fill tube to be installed on either the right or left side of the transmission. Proceed to step 8 if servicing the plug and/or seal opposite the fill tube.
2. Remove the transmission fluid level indicator.
3. If servicing the indicator tube from the left side remove the bolts, the nuts and the straps.




4. If servicing the indicator tube from the right side remove the bolts, the nuts and the straps.
5. Place a drain pan under the transmission.
6. Loosen the indicator tube from the transmission.
7. Remove the indicator tube and seal from the vehicle.




8. Remove the fill tube plug (1).
9. Remove the fill tube plug seal (2).

Installation Procedure




1. Install a new fill tube plug seal (2) into the main housing.
2. Align the tab on the fill tube plug (1) with the tang on the main housing.
3. Install the fill tube plug (1). Press the plug into the seal (2) until the tab on the fill tube plug locks into place in the notch on the main housing.
4. Install the new indicator tube seal to the transmission.
5. Install the indicator tube to the transmission





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

6. If servicing the indicator tube from the right side install the bolts, the nuts and the straps.

Tighten the indicator tube bracket bolts to 20 Nm (15 lb ft).




7. If servicing the indicator tube from the left side remove the bolts, the nuts and the straps.

Tighten the indicator tube bracket bolts to 20 Nm (15 lb ft).

8. Install the transmission fluid level indicator.
9. Check and fill the transmission to the proper level with DEXRON III fluid. Refer to Fluid Capacity Specifications Specifications.
