Cooling Fan and Shroud Replacement

J 46406 Fan Clutch Remover and Installer
Removal Procedure
1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (LL8) (Service and Repair)Cooling System Draining and Filling (LH6, LS2) (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (Service and Repair) for the 4.2L engine or Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (Service and Repair) for the 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, 6.2L, or 7.0L engine.
3. Remove the air resonator assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Resonator Replacement (Service and Repair) for the 4.2L engine or Air Cleaner Resonator Outlet Duct Replacement () for the 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, 6.2L, or 7.0L engine.
4. Remove the inlet radiator hose. Refer to Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement (LL8) (Service and Repair)Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement (LH6, LS2) (Service and Repair).
5. Remove the transmission oil cooler lines from the fan shroud.
6. Using J 46406 remove the fan clutch from the water pump.
7. Remove the mounting bolts from the upper fan shroud.
8. Lift and push the fan shroud inward to clear the filler neck on the radiator.
9. Remove the fan and the shroud.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the fan and the shroud.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).
2. Install the mounting bolts to the upper fan shroud.
Tighten the bolts to 28 Nm (21 lb ft).
3. Using J 46406 install the fan clutch to the water pump.
4. Install the transmission oil cooler lines to the fan shroud.
5. Install the inlet radiator hose. Refer to Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement (LL8) (Service and Repair)Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement (LH6, LS2) (Service and Repair).
6. Install the air resonator assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Resonator Replacement (Service and Repair) for the 4.2L engine or Air Cleaner Resonator Outlet Duct Replacement () for the 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, 6.2L, or 7.0L engine.
7. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (Service and Repair) for the 4.2L engine or Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (Service and Repair) for the 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, 6.2L, or 7.0L engine.
8. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (LL8) (Service and Repair)Cooling System Draining and Filling (LH6, LS2) (Service and Repair).
