Instrument Panel Assembly
INSTRUMENT PANEL ASSEMBLYREMOVAL
When removing a passenger airbag, refer to Air Bag.
1. Open hood.
2. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
3. Remove cowl trim cover.
4. Remove windshield washer reservoir.
5. Remove the resister block for the heater blower motor and disconnect wire connector.

6. Open both vehicle front doors. Remove both left and right end covers by pulling outboard (Fig. 3).
7. Remove floor center console.
a. Remove shifter handle.
b. Remove the PRNDL assembly.
c. Remove five mounting screws in the console.
d. Remove console.
8. Disconnect Airbag Control Module (ACM) wire connector.
9. Using a trim stick (special tool #C-4755) or equivalent, gently remove instrument panel top cover.
10. Using a trim stick or equivalent, remove center bezel.

11. Remove two screws attaching the HVAC control, and turn control sideways place it in the opening (Fig. 4).
12. Remove the tilt steering column lever.
13. Remove tachometer.

14. Remove the steering column opening cover (Fig. 6).

15. Remove both upper and lower shrouds from the steering column (Fig. 5).
16. Remove three toe plate nuts.
17. Remove the two steering column attaching nuts from the lower instrument panel.
18. Remove two screws to the shift interlock cable from steering column.
19. Disconnect the column wiring.
20. Remove the steering column pinch bolt and pull the steering column rearward off the intermediate shaft.
CAUTION: Be careful not to let the steering wheel turn once it has been removed. Clock Spring damage could result.

21. Remove the instrument panel center support nuts on the right and left side of the floor tunnel (Fig. 7).
22. Disconnect rear view mirror wire connector located just to the right of the headlamp switch.
23. Disconnect the left side wiring:
24. Remove right upper hood side panel to access the right door wiring connector.
25. Disconnect the right side wiring:
- Door harness connector
- Body harness connector (2)
- CD changer DIN cable
26. Disconnect the ground strap behind the defogger duct.
27. Disconnect the HVAC wiring connectors.
28. Disconnect the windshield antenna wire from the antenna amplifier.
29. Remove instrument panel side mounting screws from each side in the end cover openings.
30. Remove the instrument panel upper four mounting screws (Fig. 3).
31. Remove two screws from the top of the instrument panel to the steering column brake support bracket.
32. Start pulling the instrument panel rearward to clear the bulkhead.
33. Lift up instrument panel and remove.
INSTALLATION
1. Position the instrument panel on the supports.
2. Install the two screws in the steering column brake support bracket.
3. Install the instrument panel upper front four mounting screws.
4. Install the instrument panel side mounting screws in the end cover openings.
5. Connect the windshield antenna wire to the antenna amplifier.
6. Connect the HVAC connectors.
7. Connect the ground strap behind the defogger duct.
8. Connect the right side wiring:
- CD changer DIN cable
- Body harness connector
- Door harness connector
9. Connect the left side wiring:
- Door harness connector
- Body harness connector
- BCM connectors
- Brake switch
10. Install the right upper hood side panel.
11. Connect the rear view mirror wire connector to the right of the headlight switch.
12. Install the instrument panel center support nuts on the sides of the floor tunnel.
13. Position the steering column on the intermediate shaft.
14. Install the steering column pinch bolt.
15. Connect the steering column wiring.
16. Install the shift interlock and retaining screws to the steering column.
17. Install the steering column attaching nuts to the lower instrument panel.
18. Install the three toe plate nuts.
19. Install the steering column upper and lower shrouds.
20. Install the steering column opening cover.
21. Install the tachometer.
22. Install the steering column tilt lever.
23. Position and install the HVAC control head.
24. Install the center bezel.
25. Install the instrument panel top cover.
26. Connect the airbag control module connector.
27. Position the console.
28. Install the console retaining screws.
29. Install the PRNDL.
30. Install the shifter handle.
31. Install the floor center console.
32. Install the left and right end covers.
33. Install the blower motor resistor block and connect the wire harness.
WARNING: DO NOT CONNECT THE BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE. REFER TO RESTRAINT SYSTEMS, AIRBAG SYSTEM FIRST.
