Intermediate Shaft - Installation







INSTALLATION





1. Match flats inside intermediate shaft (2) with that on intermediate shaft extension (3), then slide intermediate shaft onto extension.
2. Install pinch bolt (1) fastening intermediate shaft to intermediate shaft extension. Tighten pinch bolt to 43 Nm (32 ft. lbs.).




3. Slide intermediate shaft silencer shell (3) over intermediate shaft (6) and onto studs on dash panel while inserting lower mounting stud though cover and dash panel.
4. Install two upper intermediate shaft silencer shell/cover mounting nuts (4). Tighten nuts to 2.8 Nm (25 in. lbs.).
5. Raise and support vehicle. Maintenance




6. Install lower silencer shell/cover mounting nut (5). Tighten nuts to 2.8 Nm (25 in. lbs.).
7. Ensure intermediate shaft cover shield (1) is extended down over top of gear housing closing off shaft area.
8. Lower vehicle.




9. Connect steering column coupling to intermediate shaft. To do so:
a. Match intermediate shaft (1) to coupling pinch loop.
b. Install coupling pinch bolt (8). Tighten to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.).
c. Install hair pin (7) through end of pinch bolt.




10. Remove steering wheel holder.
11. Connect battery negative (-) cable to battery post.
12. Road test vehicle to ensure proper operation of steering.
