Pinpoint Test C: The Wipers Stay On Continuously - Front
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 81, Wipers and Washers for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number
Normal Operation
Under normal operation, the Generic Electronic Module (GEM) receives open and ground inputs from the wiper/washer switch through circuits 91S-KA11 (BK/RD), 31-KA8 (BK), 8-KA47 (WH/GN), 8-KA46 (WH/BU) and 8-KA45 (WH/RD) to activate the wipers to the appropriate modes. Mode of operation is dependent on the signal(s) received from the wiper/washer switch. The front wiper relay is only active in LOW speed and MIST. When LOW or MIST is selected on the wiper/washer switch, ground is supplied to the front wiper relay through circuit 31S-KA12 (BK/WH), which activates the front wiper relay. When the front wiper relay is activated, voltage is supplied directly to the low-speed windshield wiper motor input. In intermittent and high-speed mode (front wiper relay is inactive), the GEM supplies voltage to the windshield wiper motor through circuit 32-KA9 (WH/BU)/32-KA10 (WH/GN) (low-speed feed) and 32-KA11 (WH/BK) (high-speed feed).
- DTC B1438 (Wiper Mode Select Switch Circuit Failure ) - Front wiper switch high-speed input was detected during wiper on-demand self test.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Front wiper relay
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Wiper/washer switch
- GEM
