Pinpoint Test O: The FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) Touchscreen Display Is Inoperative/Does Not Operate Correctly
Normal Operation
The Front Display Interface Module (FDIM) is directly connected to the Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM). No external circuits are connected to the FDIM (Front Display Interface Module).
- DTC B108E:01 (Display: General Electrical Failure)- Sets in the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) when an error is detected in the touch sensing ability of the FDIM (Front Display Interface Module).
- DTC U0162:00 (Lost Communication With Navigation Display Module: No Sub Type Information)- Set by the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) when communication is missing from the FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) for more than 1 seconds with the ignition in the RUN position.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Communication network concern
- APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module)
- FDIM (Front Display Interface Module)
PINPOINT TEST O : THE FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) TOUCHSCREEN DISPLAY IS INOPERATIVE/DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY
O1 OBSERVE THE FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) SCREEN
- Turn the infotainment system on and observe the FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) screen.
Is the FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) screen completely inoperative or blank?
Yes
GO to O2.
No
GO to O4.
O2 VERIFY THE APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) PASSES THE NETWORK TEST
- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test.
- Carry out the network test.
Does the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) pass the network test?
Yes
GO to O3.
No
REFER to Information Bus to diagnose the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) does not respond to the scan tool.
O3 CHECK FOR DTC U0162:00 SET IN THE APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module)
- Using the scan tool, carry out the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) self-test.
Is DTC U0162:00 present?
Yes
INSTALL a new FDIM (Front Display Interface Module). REFER to Front Display Interface Module (FDIM) Front Display Interface Module (FDIM). TEST the system for normal operation.
No
GO to O7.
O4 VERIFY THE TOUCHSCREEN RESPONDS TO TOUCH COMMANDS
- While pressing each tab of the four corners on the FDIM (Front Display Interface Module), observe the touchscreen operation.
Does the FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) respond correctly when each tab is pressed?
Yes
VERIFY, the customer concern and the steps to reproduce the inoperative state. If the inoperative state is not duplicated, the system is operating correctly at this time. INFORM the customer on the operation of the FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) display.
No
GO to O5.
O5 VERIFY THE TOUCHSCREEN IS CALIBRATED
- Enter the ACM (Audio Front Control Module) self-diagnostic mode. Refer to Audio Control Module (ACM) Self-Diagnostic Mode Audio Control Module (ACM) Self-Diagnostic Mode.
- Press and hold the SEEK DOWN button to enter Touch Screen Calibration and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Once the touchscreen calibration is complete, verify the touchscreen operation.
Does the FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) touchscreen respond correctly?
Yes
The inoperative FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) was due to the touchscreen not being calibrated. The system is operating correctly at this time.
No
GO to O6.
O6 CHECK FOR DTC B108E:01 SET IN THE APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module)
- Using the scan tool, carry out the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) self-test.
Is DTC B108E:01 present?
Yes
INSTALL a new FDIM (Front Display Interface Module). REFER to Front Display Interface Module (FDIM) Front Display Interface Module (FDIM). TEST the system for normal operation.
No
GO to O7.
O7 RESET THE APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) AND RECHECK THE SYSTEM OPERATION
NOTE: Carrying out a Master Reset returns all preference settings to the factory defaults, erases all the phone book and call histories, and deletes any devices paired with the SYNC(R) system.
- Carry out an APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) power reset by disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes, then reconnecting it.
- Turn the infotainment system on.
- While pressing each tab of the four corners on the FDIM (Front Display Interface Module), observe the touchscreen operation.
Does the touchscreen operate correctly?
Yes
The FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) is operating correctly at this time. PERFORM a SYNC(R) system Master Rest. Refer to the Owner's Literature.
No
GO to O8.
O8 CHECK FOR CORRECT APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) connector.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) connector and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module). REFER to Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM). TEST the system for normal operation.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
