Module Network Input Messages

Washer System

When the wiper/washer switch is placed in the rear WASH position, the SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) sends the request to the windshield wiper motor through the LIN (Local Interconnect Network). The windshield wiper motor grounds the rear washer relay directing washer fluid to the rear window.

Reverse Gear Wipe

When the wiper/washer switch is in any position other than OFF (or moisture is detected on the windshield if equipped with rain sensitive wipers) and the transmission selector lever is placed in the REVERSE position, the rear window wiper activates automatically. This feature can be enabled/disabled through the message center. For additional information on enabling/disabling this feature, refer to the Owner's Literature.

Rear Wiper Operation

When the wiper/washer switch is in the INT 1 or INT 2 position, the SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) sends the request to the windshield wiper motor through the LIN (Local Interconnect Network). When the request is received, the windshield wiper motor supplies a ground signal to an integral relay within the rear window wiper motor which activates the motor. The position of the wiper/washer switch determines how often the windshield wiper motor supplies the ground signal. The rear window wiper motor is self parking.

Component Description

Rear Wiper Motor

The rear window wiper motor contains a logic module, an integrated relay and a single speed motor. The integrated relay is used to both operate and park the motor.

Front Wiper Motor

The logic module inside the windshield (front) wiper motor controls the rear window wiper and washer based on the inputs from the SCCM (Steering Column Control Module). The logic module controls the coil side of the rear window wiper motor relay and the coil side of the rear washer relay in the BJB (Battery Junction Box).

Wiper/Washer Switch

The wiper/washer switch provides the following inputs to the SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) for the rear wiper/wash functions.
- INT 1
- INT 2
- Rear washer

Washer Pump

The front and rear washer system share the same washer reservoir and a bi-directional washer pump. The pump delivers washer fluid to the rear glass when the windshield wiper motor activates the rear washer relay, which provides voltage to the washer pump. Ground for the washer pump is provided through the washer relay which is internal to the windshield wiper motor.
