Pinpoint Test D: The Wipers Stay On Continuously - Rear
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 81, Wipers and Washers for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number
Normal Operation
Under normal operation, the Generic Electronic Module (GEM) receives a ground input from the wiper/washer switch through circuit 91S-KA35 (BK/BU) to activate the rear wipers. The GEM supplies voltage to the rear wiper motors through circuit 32-KA28 (WH/RD).
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Wiper/washer switch
- GEM
PINPOINT TEST D: THE WIPERS STAY ON CONTINUOUSLY - REAR
NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) from the Flex Probe Kit when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
-------------------------------------------------
D1 CHECK THE WIPER/WASHER SWITCH INPUT
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: GEM C201C .
- Measure the resistance between GEM C201C-14, circuit 91S-KA35 (BK/BU), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
GO to D3.
No
GO to D2.
-------------------------------------------------
D2 CHECK CIRCUIT 91S-KA35 (BK/BU) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Disconnect: Wiper/Washer Switch C2081 .
- Measure the resistance between GEM C201C-14, circuit 91S-KA35 (BK/BU), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
INSTALL a new wiper/washer switch. REFER to Steering Column Switches Steering Column Multifunction Switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
-------------------------------------------------
D3 CHECK CIRCUIT 32-KA28 (WH/RD) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Disconnect: GEM C201A .
- Ignition ON.
- Measure the voltage between GEM C201A-5, circuit 32-KA28 (WH/RD), harness side and ground.
- Is any voltage present?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
GO to D4.
-------------------------------------------------
D4 CHECK FOR CORRECT GEM OPERATION
- Disconnect the GEM electrical connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion.
- pushed-out pins.
- Connect the GEM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Reconnect all the wiper system components.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new GEM Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
