Pinpoint Test G: The Infotainment Display Is Inoperative
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 130, Audio System/Navigation for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.
Normal Operation
The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) receives the RH steering wheel switch status and data from the Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN). The IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) gateways the RH steering wheel switch status and data over the Infotainment Controller Area Network (I-CAN) to the Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM), the Audio Control Module (ACM), the audio Digital Signal Processing (DSP) module (if equipped) and the Front Control/Display Interface Module (FCDIM) (if equipped). The infotainment display in the RH IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) display screen (with SYNC(R)) or FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module) (without SYNC(R)) is controlled through the RH 5-way steering wheel switch.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)
- SCCM (Steering Column Control Module)
PINPOINT TEST G : THE INFOTAINMENT DISPLAY IS INOPERATIVE
G1 CHECK THE INFOTAINMENT DISPLAY
- Ignition ON.
- For vehicles with SYNC(R), check the RH infotainment display in the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster).
- For vehicles without SYNC(R), check the infotainment display in the FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module).
Is the display blank?
Yes
For vehicles with SYNC(R), INSTALL a new IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster). REFER to Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators. TEST the system for normal operation.
For vehicles without SYNC(R), INSTALL a new FCDIM (Front Control/Display Interface Module). REFER to Front Controls/Display Interface Module (FCDIM) . TEST the system for normal operation.
No
GO to G2.
G2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) DTCs from the continuous self-test.
Are any DTCs related to the RH steering wheel switch recorded?
Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test F Pinpoint Test F: The Steering Wheel Controls Are Inoperative/Do Not Operate Correctly.
No
GO to G3.
G3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) DTCs from the continuous self-test.
Is DTC U0212:00 recorded?
Yes
REFER to Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.
No
GO to G4.
G4 CHECK FOR CORRECT SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) OPERATION
- Disconnect all the SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) connectors and make sure they are seated correctly.
- Install the driver air bag module.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new SCCM (Steering Column Control Module). CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
