Pinpoint Test F: The Adaptive Cruise Control Does Not Function In Rain Or Snow Conditions
Normal Operation
The adaptive cruise control system is enabled when the vehicle speed is set and the Cruise-Control Module (C-CM), which is a radar sensor unit, determines the distance and relative speed of the vehicle that is in the path of travel. The adaptive cruise control system has limited performance in rain and snow conditions. The radar sensor unit can be blocked or obstructed due to these types of weather conditions.
- DTC C1A67:97 (Forward Looking Sensor: Component Or System Operation Obstructed Or Blocked)- set by the C-CM (Cruise-Control Module) as a continuous memory and on-demand DTC if the C-CM (Cruise-Control Module) detects an obstruction or if the sensor is blocked. This DTC may also set when the C-CM (Cruise-Control Module) does not see a vehicle or object on the road for an extended period.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- C-CM (Cruise-Control Module)
- Blockage or obstruction
- Front bumper cover
PINPOINT TEST F : THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT FUNCTION IN RAIN OR SNOW CONDITIONS
F1 INSPECT THE FRONT BUMPER COVER FOR DAMAGE
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
- For Edge, insert a mirror into grill opening next to the C-CM (Cruise-Control Module).
- For MKX, remove the fascia radar access door.
- Inspect for damage on the front and back of the front bumper cover.
Is the front bumper cover damaged?
Yes
REPAIR or INSTALL a new front bumper cover as necessary. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
GO to F2.
F2 INSPECT THE C-CM (Cruise-Control Module) AND FRONT BUMPER COVER FOR DEBRIS, MOISTURE, SNOW OR ICE
- Inspect for debris, moisture, snow or ice on the front and back of the front bumper cover and sensor.
Is the C-CM (Cruise-Control Module) obstructed or blocked?
Yes
CLEAN the front bumper cover and radar sensor portion as necessary. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
GO to F3.
F3 INSPECT THE C-CM (Cruise-Control Module) BRACKET FOR CORRECT MOUNTING
- Inspect the C-CM (Cruise-Control Module) bracket for a loose connection or damage at the 3 connection points.
Is the C-CM (Cruise-Control Module) bracket loose or damaged?
Yes
Correctly INSTALL the bracket or INSTALL new grommets as necessary. ALIGN the sensor. Cruise Control Module (C-CM) (with Sensor) Adjustment Adjustments. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
GO to F4.
F4 CARRY OUT THE VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL ALIGNMENT
- NOTE: Remove the front bumper cover to carry out the vertical alignment procedure.
Carry out the alignment procedures for the C-CM (Cruise-Control Module). Refer to Cruise Control Module (C-CM) (with Sensor) Adjustment Adjustments.
Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new C-CM (Cruise-Control Module). REFER to Cruise-Control Module (C-CM) . CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
This condition was caused by misalignment. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
