Pinpoint Test AH: The SYNC(R) System Is Completely Inoperative
Normal Operation
When a button on the Front Controls Interface Module (FCIM) is pressed, a network message is sent to the Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) via the Infotainment Controller Area Network (I-CAN). The APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) takes the appropriate action and sends a status message to the Front Control/Display Interface Module (FCDIM) in order to update the display screen.
- DTC U3000:04 (Control Module: System Internal Failure)- sets when the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) detects a fault due to a device conflict or an internal failure.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Audio system concern
- Communication network concern
- Customer error
- Customer device
- APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module)
PINPOINT TEST AH : THE SYNC(R) SYSTEM IS COMPLETELY INOPERATIVE
AH1 CHECK FOR SCAN TOOL COMMUNICATION WITH THE APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module)
- Carry out the network test using the scan tool.
Does the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) pass the network test?
Yes
GO to AH2.
No
REFER to Information Bus.
AH2 CHECK THE SYNC(R) SYSTEM OPERATION
NOTE: Carrying out a Master Reset returns all preference settings to the factory defaults, erases all the phone book and call histories, and deletes any devices paired with the SYNC(R) system. For vehicles with a 8-inch (203 mm) touchscreen, all navigation and address data is deleted.
- Connect: Multi-Media Interface Tester.
- Using the Multi-Media Interface Tester, test the audio output for the audio input jack, USB (Universal Serial Bus) port, and Bluetooth connection using the VOICE switch on the steering wheel controls to enter each mode.
Do all of the SYNC(R) inputs function correctly?
Yes
The SYNC(R) system is operating correctly at this time. CARRY OUT a SYNC(R) system Master Reset. REFER to the Owner's Literature.
REVIEW the SYNC(R) system operation with the customer. If the customer device still does not operate correctly, the fault is with the customer device.
No
GO to AH3.
AH3 RESET THE APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) AND RECHECK SYNC(R) SYSTEM OPERATION
- Carry out an APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) power reset by disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes, then reconnecting it.
No
If only some (but not all) of the inputs are inoperative, for vehicles with 4.2-inch (107 mm) screen GO to Symptom Chart - SYNC(R) System, 4.2-inch (107mm) Screen Symptom Chart - SYNC(R) System, 4.2-Inch (107 mm) Screen or for vehicles with 8-inch (203 mm) touchscreen GO to Symptom Chart - SYNC(R) System, 8-inch (203mm) Touchscreen to diagnose the observed symptom Symptom Chart - SYNC(R) System, 8-Inch (203 mm) Touchscreen. If all inputs are inoperative and/or DTC U3000:04 is present, INSTALL a new APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module). REFER to Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) .
