Pinpoint Test AG: An Individual Button/Feature Is Inoperative From The Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Transmitter
Normal Operation
The Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter in the Intelligent Access (IA) key sends a radio signal to the Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) module based on the user selected RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter button. The TPM (Tire Pressure Monitor) module then communicates the command to the Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module, and the RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module carries out the selected action.
Upon a request to lock/unlock the doors the RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module controls the door lock actuators. Upon a request to open/close the power liftgate, the RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module sends a network message to the Liftgate/Trunk Module (LTM) over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN). Upon a panic alarm request, the RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module sends a network message to the Body Control Module (BCM) over the MS-CAN (Medium Speed Controller Area Network) to activate the turn signals and horn.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Door locks
- Horn system
- Factory remote start system (if equipped)
- Power liftgate system
- Turn signal system
- IA (Intelligent Access) key
PINPOINT TEST AG : AN INDIVIDUAL BUTTON/FEATURE IS INOPERATIVE FROM THE RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) TRANSMITTER
NOTE: The panic feature only operates when the ignition is in the OFF mode.
AG1 VERIFY THE DOOR LOCK OPERATION
- Press the lock and unlock button on the driver door lock control switch while observing the door lock operation.
Do the door locks operate correctly?
Yes
GO to AG2.
No
CHECK the symptom(s) and GO to Symptom Chart - Electrical With Intelligent Access (IA).
AG2 VERIFY THE HAZARD LAMP OPERATION
- Place the hazard switch in the ON position.
Do the hazard lamps operate correctly?
Yes
GO to AG3.
No
REFER to Lighting and Horns.
AG3 VERIFY THE LIFTGATE OPERATION
- Press an interior power liftgate switch.
Does the power liftgate open?
Yes
GO to AG4.
No
REFER to Doors, Hood and Trunk.
AG4 VERIFY THE HORN OPERATION
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: BCM (Body Control Module) DataLogger.
- Select the BCM (Body Control Module) PID (HORN) and active command the horn on.
Does the horn sound when commanded on?
Yes
For vehicles equipped with the factory remote start, GO to AG5.
For vehicles without the factory remote start, REPLACE and PROGRAM the inoperative IA (Intelligent Access) key. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REFER to Horn.
AG5 VERIFY THE REMOTE START BUTTON
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module DataLogger.
- Select the RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module PID (Lst_Xm_B_Prs) while pressing the remote start button on an IA (Intelligent Access) key.
Does the PID indicate the remote start button is being pressed?
Yes
REFER to Starting System to diagnose the remote start system.
No
REPLACE and PROGRAM the inoperative IA (Intelligent Access) key. TEST the system for normal operation.
