Pinpoint Test S: The Satellite Radio Is Inoperative/Does Not Operate Correctly

Normal Operation

Digital signals are received by the satellite radio antenna and sent to the Audio Front Control Module (ACM) through the satellite radio antenna cable. The satellite receiver is internal to the ACM (Audio Front Control Module).

When a satellite radio subscription is activated, the Electronic Serial Number (ESN) of the built-in satellite radio receiver is associated with the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). As a result, the ACM (Audio Front Control Module) cannot be swapped from one vehicle to another.

- DTC U2014:96 (Control Module Hardware: Component Internal Failure)- sets when the navigation ACM (Audio Front Control Module) detects an internal fault to the built-in satellite radio receiver. This results in complete loss of satellite radio functionality.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Subscription status

- Satellite radio system concern

- ACM (Audio Front Control Module)

PINPOINT TEST S : THE SATELLITE RADIO IS INOPERATIVE/DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY

S1 VERIFY AN ACTIVE SUBSCRIPTION

- Operate the audio system in satellite radio mode and observe the FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) display.

Does the display indicate the subscription has expired?

Yes
The subscription has expired. INFORM the customer to contact Sirius to re-activate the subscription.

No
For vehicles with navigation, GO to S2.

For all others, GO to S3.

S2 CHECK THE ACM (Audio Front Control Module) DTCs

- Retrieve the ACM (Audio Front Control Module) DTCs.

Is DTC U2014:96 present?

Yes
GO to S4.

No
GO to S3.

S3 CHECK THE SATELLITE SIGNAL PID (SAT_SIG_STR)

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: ACM (Audio Front Control Module) DataLogger.

- Monitor the ACM (Audio Front Control Module) PID (SAT_SIG_STR).

Does the PID indicate "No Signal"?

Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test M Pinpoint Test M: Poor Reception/Poor Sound Quality/No Sound - Satellite Radio.

No
GO to S4.

S4 CHECK FOR CORRECT ACM (Audio Front Control Module) OPERATION

- Ignition OFF.

- Disconnect all the ACM (Audio Front Control Module) connectors.

- Check for:
- corrosion

- damaged pins

- pushed-out pins


- Connect all the ACM (Audio Front Control Module) connectors and make sure they seat correctly.

- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new ACM (Audio Front Control Module). REFER to Audio Control Module (ACM) . TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
